  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Head/Disk Interface (HDI) engineer for early development phase of new MAMR or HAMR hard disk products
    • Interface with multi-functional teams to design in and assure the mechanical and tribology reliability of the head and media for new hard disk product designs
    • Analyze empirical hard disk data and make statistically valid recommendations to functional and management teams regarding design decisions
    • Propose and assure, by appropriate modeling and/or testing, new designs meet all firmware, reliability, validation, and system level requirements, with focus on head/disk interface
    • Trouble shoot HDI related problems during development, and make recommendations and validate fixes
    • Perform and coordinate with support teams failure analysis, and report conclusions and recommendations
    • Design experiments to test HDI reliability of new component designs in hard drives
    • Anticipate and design/document new head/disk interface hardware, electronic, or FW features to enable and support new recording technologies
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • MS or PhD in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or related disciplines
    • Outstanding statistical analysis skill, proficient in JMP, Matlab, SQL etc.
    • 15+ years of relevant experience
    • Creative, self-motivated, honest, and team player

    PREFERRED SKILLS:

    • JIRA (Atlassian) FW management knowledge a plus
    • Working knowledge of electronic design
      • Able to design and build test instrumentation in support of HDI experiments
    • Excellent written and verbal communication
    • Excellent problem solving skills
    • Result and detail oriented
