    Job Description

    We are seeking an experienced engineer to join the Software Development Team and work directly on the development and support of our custom Windows and Linux Drivers.  The Team's primary objective is to develop WD’s proprietary software tools that are used across the company for firmware development, testing, failure analysis, and debugging issues.  The Team works cross functionally with firmware engineers, customer teams, system integration engineers, and the test development and execution teams, to design a robust and versatile tool and test environment.  Our tool set is essential to the development and support of WD’s cutting-edge technologies.  

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Work in a fast paced, user-focused team environment to develop and support a comprehensive tool set for new HDD and SSD technologies.
    • Work across different functional areas to identify, plan, and coordinate working objectives.
    • Participate in Scrum & Agile processes to plan, execute, and coordinate the team’s work.
    • Adapt our tool set to keep up with changing customer / firmware requirements, operating system / user environments, and future architectural needs.
    • Perform failure analysis to support a varied user base.  
    • Help improve the team’s efficiency and performance by developing new internal processes.
    • Be part of the team to help deliver next gen cutting-edge storage products.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering, 1+ years of professional experience.
    • Professional experience developing and debugging in C++
    • Experience with scripting languages such as Python and/or TCL

    SKILLS:

    • Object oriented programming
    • Excellent communication and debugging skills
    • Team oriented mindset
    • Highly motivated to explore and learn
    • Strong understanding of software testing fundamentals

    Drivers Specific Qualifications:

    • Some knowledge and experience with Systems Programming (either Windows or Linux).  This involves working with OS specific calls made from user programs.
    • Some knowledge and experience with Kernel or OS internals (either Windows or Linux) programming.  This involves writing or supporting kernel modules, like device drivers.
    • Working knowledge of SCSI or ATA protocols. 
    • Some knowledge of SAS and SATA protocols is also helpful.
    • Some knowledge and experience of host based device protocol test packages.
    • Some knowledge with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOSs) and embedded programming.  RTOSs share many (and often more) of the constraints as OS kernel modules.

    • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado or remote jobs that can be performed in Colorado.  This range may be modified in the future.
    • You will also be eligible to participate in Western Digital's Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan and to receive equity awards under our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs), pursuant to the terms of these programs.  RSU awards are also available to eligible new hires, subject to Western Digital’s Standard Terms and Conditions for Restricted Stock Unit Awards.
