    We are looking for a highly motivated, technical individual with extensive FW knowledge in HDDs. You will work on the latest products and guide team to deliver solutions to meet customer requirements and product features.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • FW code lead for features related to head‐disk interface tribology and defect detection
    • Subject matter expert for FW related design, code development, and bug fixes
    • Conducting research and development of new techniques and methodologies to support high volume hard disk drive production
    • Providing analysis and recommendations for reliability improvement, yield and risk optimization and test‐time improvement
    • Providing fast feedback and solution on any tribology issue, and work with other FW architects help figure out both short-term and long-term solutions
    • Owner for components in FW library
    • Present to customers as needed and participate in technical discussion
    • Design, implement, validate, and maintain firmware components to support products using best-practice firmware development methodologies
    • Participate in all design, test plan, and code reviews, providing constructive feedback to ensure quality of firmware
    • Collaborating with other cross functional teams to derive innovative quality firmware solutions and resolutions of issue findings in timely and quality manner
    • Developing data analysis tools and methodologies for storing, retrieving, transforming and modeling disk defect data to discover useful information for failure analysis and business decision-making     
    • Performing systems design and development using C and related languages (C, C++) and also via other software tools (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Matlab, and/or scripting environments such as Python) to answer technical questions to assist in making Hard Disk Drive (HDD) product architectural and design decisions
    • Participating in cross-functional interactions with IPFW, Performance, Servo, CI, DAE, Media, Blade teams to assist with issues related to defect detection and brainstorming for new feature development
    • Supporting worldwide Failure Analysis group with failures related to defect detection  
    • Training local, product engineering and factory engineers with data analysis and upcoming features
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • BS/MS or higher in CS, CE, EE or related field
    • 10+ years in HDD storage with deep understanding of customer requirements in head‐disk interface tribology and defect detection
    • Fluency with programming languages such as C/C++
    • Experience and Knowledge of:  TCL, MATLAB, Debugging, SAS/SATA Bus Trace Analysis, JTAG ICE (using GHS probes and Arium probes), TCG, FIPS, SVN, Git, Gerrit, Jenkins, JIRA, Confluence, MS Office
    • Experience in working in a global environment with different time zones
    • Able to prepare and give technical lectures to worldwide team on complex subjects
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong technical skills in area of study
    • Interest in HDD, flash, semiconductor, components, nonvolatile memory industry
    • Ability to evaluate and interpret complex engineering data generated by internal teams or external customers
