    Job Description

    Central Utility Plant (CUP) Facilities Maintenance Technician: Responsible for maintaining and operating chillers, boilers, pumps, air compressors - starting and stopping - Steam Pressure Boilers, chillers, air compressors and ancillary equipment to ensure the systems parameters for the above site systems are in spec. Monitor systems, answer calls from Business units and dispatch maintenance personnel as necessary.

    ·Position reports to: Campus Utilities & High Voltage Maintenance and Engineering Supervisor

     Level of supervision the employee receives:

    Works under general supervision, the employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence.  Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, accuracy, completeness and conformance to standard practice, precedent or policy.

     Level of supervision exercised: None

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Performs building operations, preventive maintenance, basic equipment repairs, installations, and corrective maintenance on Central Utility Plant equipment such as boilers, chillers, chilled water pumps, condenser pumps, cooling towers, air compressors and mechanical/HVAC equipment.
    • Answer calls from the site business units, document clearly the issues and respond in a professional manner.
    • Work with the Maintenance and Operations teams to effectively dispatch in a timely manner a response team to address problem calls from the site business units.
    • Basic repairs and installation of piping systems: welding, soldering/sweating, gluing pipe, black iron, stainless steel, copper, pvc, etc…
    • Inspects major site systems identify or recognize operating problems, performs basic troubleshooting and implement corrective actions.
    • Performs building automation monitoring, alarm response.
    • Able to develop and/or correct operational procedures and support continuous improvement efforts for the site.
    • Physically able to work in confined spaces and trained for as a C.S. Supervisor, Entrant and Rescue duties.
    •  Underground vault work replacing valves, steam traps, insulation, pipes etc…
    • Must complete a physical and audiometric examinations.
    • Must wear ANSI safety shoes composite toe and personal protective equipment.
    •  Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
    • Daily and punctual attendance in the job site is required.

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    Education/Experience

    • Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent two-year college or technical school
    •  5 to 10 years of working with high pressure steam boilers, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, air dryers and building automation control systems
    •  Electrical knowledge and troubleshooting, and controls knowledge (PREFERRED)

    Education/Experience Equivalency

    ·        A combination of appropriate experience and education may be substituted for the minimum experience and education requirement

    Licensure and/or Certification

    • Universal CFC certification (PREFERRED)
    • Boiler certification (PREFERRED)

    Electrical – __ Knowledge of electrical equipment, components, instruments, and systems, including their design, installation, testing, uses, repair, or maintenance. Skilled in operating a variety of electrical tools and instruments. Understands and/or familiarity with the National Electric Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) Codes and National Electrical Testing Association (NETA) requirements.

    Technical Problem Solving – Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies systems malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem.

    Decision-Making –Generates alternatives, considers risks, and evaluates and chooses the best alternative in order to make a determination, draw conclusions, or solve a problem.

    • Knowledge and adherence to all company and client contractor Health, Safety & Environment policies and procedures.
    • Ability to read gauges, dials, monitoring equipment, and enter records into computer equipment and log sheets.
    • Skill in utilizing computer software (Word, Outlook, Excel, Internet, computerized maintenance management systems -CMMS) to accomplish a variety of tasks.
    • Ability to retrieve PMs and enter PM data.
    • Supports continuous improvement efforts for the site.
    • Must complete a physical and audiometric examinations.

    • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado or remote jobs that can be performed in Colorado.  This range may be modified in the future.
    • If your position is non-exempt, you are eligible for overtime pay pursuant to company policy and applicable laws.  You may also be eligible for shift differential pay, depending on the shift to which you are assigned.
