    Job Description

    Chemical Mechanical Planarizaton (CMP) Process Team is a part of Wafer Engineering Organization in WD for making advanced magnetic recording heads. We are responsible for new technology evaluation, process development, continual improvement, and manufacturing sustaining of CMP module.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Work with development engineers to introduce new products and/or new CMP processes into manufacturing.
    • Improve existing CMP processes and post CMP cleaning to meet product requirements and manufacturability.
    • Develop or evaluate new CMP processing technology, methodology, consumables or tools to improve product yield, process capability, rework rate, throughput, scraps, and cost.
    • Support and sustain manufacturing line in CMP and lapping areas. Monitor processes and equipment to ensure wafer quality, minimal performance variation and interruption.
    • Trouble-shoot line issues. Conduct defect analyses, root cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
    • Work with other engineering departments on designs incorporating CMP or resolving any integration issue.
    • Present project plan and summary, document processes and procedures, direct the work of CMP technicians, and train operators

    REQUIRED

    • BS, MS, or PhD degree in physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related engineering field.
    • Experience and knowledge of CMP and post cleaning processes.
    • Understanding other process techniques, such as photolithography, dry or wet etching, electroplating, or thin film deposition processes.
    • Experience with metrologies, like FEI, AFM, profilometers, reflectometer, and optical inspection.
    • Experience on DOE, SPC, or APC.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Able to work on the resolution of any issue and to interact with various interdepartmental engineering and support organizations.
    • Demonstrated leadership and project driving skills, capable of managing projects with set milestones and timeline, and ability to execute with minimal supervision. 
    • Experience with statistical analysis tools, such as JMP, is a plus.
