    Job Description

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Flash Product Group (FPG) is responsible for developing next generation SSDs for Client and enterprise market segments. Some of our success stories include WD Black, WD Gold, etc. One of the key challenges for SSD product development is to reduce Software/Firmware Development Life (SDLC) Cycle to deliver products ahead of time. We reduce SDLC by using Simulation platforms for firmware development parallel to ASIC development. Come and join our exciting and rewarding workplace at WD.

We are looking for a talented and passionate engineer to develop Performance and Simulation models for Enterprise SSD. Modeling team develops both Architecture and functional Models for WD Enterprise SSDs. The Architecture models are used for Architecture analysis to define future generations of SSD. Functional Models are used by product firmware to shorten SDLC following left shift development.

The Performance and Modeling Engineer will join a team of experts in researching and developing innovative SSD solutions. You will be working with the-state-of-art technologies in the context of vertical integration and optimization across RTL/ASIC HW and full stack SW.

    • Engage early with SSD ASIC architecture team and design team to gain understanding of System Architecture and module design
    • Map SSD Microarchitecture blocks into Simulator model design and implement using SystemC/TLM2
    • Integrate modules into complete SSD system and verify the system functions with Firmware written in C/C++
    • Support Firmware team and Architecture team during Firmware development and Architecture analysis
    • Compare the Sequential and Random Read/Write ASIC and Simulator performance and power issues. Analyze the results to identify Microarchitecture bottlenecks and work with the System and ASIC Architects to resolve and fix issues
    • Propose innovative Architecture solutions to improve the NVMe SSD Power and Performance
    • Setup evaluation platform and measure various SSD system performance metrics like latency, throughput, module resource occupancies, Host/DRAM/NAND command/data bandwidth, and analyze full SSD system behavior under various Enterprise/Cloud/Datacenter application workloads
    • Collect vital performance data from various software for detailed analysis, derive meaningful insights, and present findings in a scientific and graphical format that can be shared across business
