Co-op Job Description:
Western Digital’s System Integration Test (SIT) Laboratory located in Rochester, MN is seeking computer engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science students. We have multiple full-time paid co-op/internship opportunities available for our 2023 co-op season beginning in 2023 with exact dates flexible based on school schedules. Students work as part of a global engineering team responsible for ensuring WDC products are delivered with high quality and integrate well into customer systems through extensive validation and collaboration. Students are responsible for assisting Western Digital engineers throughout the test process focusing on early planning and technology development areas. Co-op/internship assignments are of the same type as those of our regular engineers offering students the greatest exposure to life as a regular Western Digital employee.
Qualified candidates should be of at least sophomore standing pursuing a BS or graduate degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science from an accredited university. Professional English business communication competency, both verbal and written, is required as is competency with basic office technology (general PC use, email, spreadsheets, etc.).
Dept Description:
The Technology Development team is responsible for ensuring the System Integration and Test (SIT) lab is prepared for new product development including test strategy, development, tools, and training. We assist the validation team during product development providing technical support and leading the defect management process.
Project Description:
A variety of projects are available to be chosen from. The project topics primarily are associated with validation development where a specific new feature for a product requires additional test development or invention of new test infrastructure. Other topics include validation automation where a series of test cases that were executed manually can be incorporated into our automation infrastructure building efficiency. We also have project options where the Intern will assist one of our technical leads with completion of our staging checklist to ensure our lab is ready for product development execution.
Qualifications
Skills / Qualifications:
Electrical design or coding experience (variety of languages; Perl and/or Python preferred), strong communication (verbal, written, and presentation), knowledge of computer architecture and systems (emphasis on storage technologies), comfortable with new technology and applications, quick learner, and obsessively curious.
