    Job Description

    Work with media process and HDD development teams to design, develop and implement new media burnish processes and technologies. The goal is to provide defect free and highly reliable hard disk media to Western Digital hard drives.

    PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop hard disk media burnish processes for next generation of ePMR and HAMR products.
    • Develop metrology for hard disk media film and interface characterization.
    • Develop process materials through close collaborations with material vendors.
    • Collaborate with equipment engineers to upgrade existing process tools for next generation media processing.
    • Explore the opportunities to find tools and technology that provide quantum lip improvement in the performance.
    • Design and carryout DOEs to investigate media design variables impact to hard drive interface and reliability.
    • Utilize available media and HDD manufacture data sets to initiate process improvements that enhance drive performance.
    • Communicate and collaborate across multiple teams including process engineering, product engineering, manufacturing, design, and failure analysis groups.
    • Use DOE’s to develop materials and processes for hard disk media.
    • Analyze statistical process control (SPC) data and respond appropriately to ensure processes are in control.
    • Investigate and find root cause for media related HDD failures.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    • MS in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science or Chemical Engineering.
    • 3-5 years’ experience in Semiconductor or Hard Disk Media Industries in Process Development role preferred.

    SKILLS

    • Advanced experience and knowledge in device fabrication such as polishing, grinding and lapping is desirable, but not necessary.
    • The candidate must possess strong data analysis skills in process development and improvement, capable of solving complex process problems with minimum supervision and guidance.
    • Hand-on experience and advanced knowledge in process standardization and statistical process control for high volume production.
    • Demonstrated project management skills.
    • Good communication skills.
    • Understanding of surface characterization techniques such as Optical Microscopes, AFM, SEM, TOFSIMs, XRR, Auger, FTIR, ESCA, etc.)
