    Job Description

    Work with media process and HDD development teams to design, develop and implement new media carbon overcoat and lubricant technologies into Western Digital hard drives. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Collaborate with HDD and head teams to develop the best possible head and media interface for current and future WD HDD products
    • Understand HDD requirements for media tribology performance and drive media test and development teams to ensure new designs meet or exceed
    • Design and carryout DOEs to investigate media design variables impact to hard drive interface and reliability.
    • Use data analysis to utilize available media and HDD manufacture data sets to increase understanding of head and media interface and improve disk design and manufacturing.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    • 5-10+ Years of Experience
    • Experience with HDD, media and head tribology product design and development
    • Familiarity with media sputter process and lubricant development
    • Experience with component and HDD level tribology and reliability testing
    • Experience with data science and statistical analysis
    • Degree in material science, physics, chemistry, mechanical engineering, or equivalent required.

     

    SKILLS:

    • Strong Leadership & Problem Solving & Organization skills
    • Ability to handle more than one project at a time
    • Exceptional communication and presentation abilities
    • Ability to lead cross functional task force as required to solve complex problems
    • Understanding of surface characterization techniques used in media development and failure analysis (SEM, TOFSIMs, XRR, Auger, AFM, FTIR, ESCA, ellipsometry etc.)
