    The Export Compliance Manager is responsible for managing projects and creating/maintaining policies and procedures for Western Digital’s export compliance program ensuring compliance with the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Trade Agreement Act (TAA), economic and trade sanctions programs, and other applicable export laws and regulations.  

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop and maintain export compliance policies and procedures
    • Create and refine processes to enable systematic and organized approach to resolving issues and implementing solutions
    • Provide guidance to Global Trade Operations and other business functions on export compliance rules and regulations
    • Refine internal process on obtaining information to classify WDC products and related software and technologies including those with encryption capabilities and develop clear classification guidelines for the trade operations team
    • Apply for U.S. export licenses and classification determinations as required or appropriate
    • Monitor legal, regulatory, and trade developments that impact WDC’s business and provide guidance to mitigate impacts.
    • Develop and execute risk-based trade compliance training and communications.
    • Collaborate with various business functions (including colleagues in Legal, Finance/Tax, HR, Engineering, NPI, Supply Chain, Marketing and Sales, Corporate Strategy) to understand needs and build integrated, upstream and forward-looking trade compliance processes.
    • Lead or participate in projects to enhance trade compliance efficiency and value contribution.
    • Contribute to the development of compliance roadmap and strategic planning.
    • Promote a business culture of trade compliance and ethics and conduct other compliance activities.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    • Strong knowledge and experience with EAR, OFAC economic and trade sanctions programs, as well as ethics and compliance program management and/or development
    • Experience with classifying products, software and technology (especially in Categories 3 and 5)
    • 8+ years of practical work experience, preferably in high tech companies
    • BS/BA degree, graduate degree or JD preferred
    • Project management experience
    • Researched areas of complex trade law, made recommendations and provided advice based on independent analysis of the issues
    • Knowledge of export regulations of countries other than U.S., a plus
    • Experience working, managing and driving multi-functional projects to completion
    • Excellent and effective written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work cross-functionally and collaboratively
    • Flexible, hardworking team player and motivator with strong people skills
    • Action- and results-oriented

    • Resilient and able to quickly adjust priorities to meet business needs
    • Attention to detail, critical thinking, excellent problem solving and analysis skills

    • Skilled in MS Office suite of products (including MS Teams), productivity and collaboration applications, Jive, Box, Webex, Jabber
