    Job Description

The research organization of Western Digital operates a state-of-the-art, 15,000 sq. ft. cleanroom for prototype emerging memory devices.  The line is currently running 150 mm wafers, but will be upgraded to 200 mm wafers over the next two years.  The position is for an equipment/facilities engineer responsible for installing and maintaining the fabrication/metrology equipment in the laboratory.  These aspects include:

Supervising installation of new tools and deinstallation of obsolete tools, interfacing with vendors who service the tools, managing tool service contracts, supervising maintenance and repairs on tools, managing critical spare part inventories, coordinating tool upgrades; working with sector owners to insure tools are operating with specifications.

Tools in the laboratory include optical lithography equipment, SEM, AFMs, dual beam FIB, two e-beam lithography systems, 4 R.I.E. chambers, CMP systems, Ion milling, multiple thin film deposition systems (CVD, ALD, Ion Beam deposition, PVD).  The thin film deposition tools will require the most hand-on attention to optimize uptime.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

Extensive experience in repair and maintenance of cleanroom equipment is required.  Familiarity with tooling used in many different sectors (litho, etch, deposition) is preferred, but deep expertise with thin film deposition equipment is required.  Experience interfacing with facilities engineering to insure laboratory facilities can support the tool requirements.  Strong communication skills are required, as equipment engineers must effectively operate with an array of outside service providers and internal tool users.  The successful engineer will have a proactive mindset, anticipating likely causes of downtime and taking appropriate mitigation steps to minimize such downtime.

A minimum of a bachelor's degree in some field of engineering is required.
