Apprentice Welder 1 - Date: Jan 2, 2019 Location: Catoosa, OK, US, 74015 Company: Worthington Industries, Inc Summary This position level is for establishing the skill level of entry level welders new to the location. It is expected most individuals hired into this position will proceed to Welder 1 level after 90 days or less. This is an entry level welding role. A successful candidate is self-motivated and utilizes a strong work ethic to ensure all quality levels are met. Responsibilities - Safely operates and performs SMAW, GMAW or SAW duties. - Assists Welder 1 and 2 in fit up, grinding, cutting and equipment setup. - Assists in layout of tanks and pressure vessel parts. - Assists assigned mentor as necessary. - Practice and pass basic ASME welder performance qualification tests. - Inspect all parts for defects and welds to ensure quality products. - Recognizes common weld flaws, discontinuities and defects. - Requests tests for weld qualification and training for WI Weld Quality System. - Self-inspects own welds and corrects errors with mentors guidance. - Organizes work cell with instruction from group leaders to make welds and vessel lay-outs in a timely manner to meet production demands. - Sets up and makes adjustments to stick and mig welding machines as needed to maintain good production and quality. - Other duties as assigned. Desired Experience - Ability to lift at least 60+ pounds on a regular basis - Job requires strong range of motion as well as standing through entire length of shift - Can read a tape measure and utilize other measuring devices proficiently. - Demonstrate basic math skills - Mechanical aptitude required - Must be able to distinguish between part numbers and sizes - Must be able to count and label parts accurately - Must be able to handle small parts - Must be able to handle physical, repetitive work and be able to stand for 10 hours a day - Completes 90 day checklist - Has emerging GMAW, SMAW or SAW skills. Must have a firm understanding of process variables and is able to adjust accordingly - Complies with the 5As of performance (Attendance, Attitude, Adaptability, Accident-free and Accountability) - Reports to work on time, with appropriate PPE. Makes necessary requests to obtain PPE.
