    The MUELLER WATER PRODUCTS is headquartered in Atlanta, GA and manufactures valves for water and gas systems, including iron gate, butterfly, tapping, check, plug, and ball valves, as well as dry-barrel and wet-barrel fire hydrants; pipe repair products, such as clamps and couplings used to repair leaks, as well as municipal castings, including manhole covers and street drain grates; and residential and commercial water meter products and systems. It also offers metering, leak detection, pipe condition assessment, and other products and services for the water infrastructure industry, as well as provides installation, replacement, and maintenance services on new and existing valves, fire hydrants, and service lines.

    This position’s primary responsibility will be to successfully manage relationships with the plant’s hourly bargaining unit employees and the local union leadership.  This will include, but not be limited to:  administering company policies, overseeing the local collective bargaining agreements, hiring hourly production personnel, benefit administration and other human resource functions.  Additionally, for development, the Generalist will get exposure to salaried activities such as our performance management process, compensation planning, succession and development activities, etc. 

    Duties will include, but not be limited to, the following: 

    • Manage the administration of the plant’s labor agreements (4 Labor Unions onsite).  Assist the HR Manager with pre-negotiation labor strategy to include wage and benefit surveys, grievance history, contract costing, and bargaining strategy for the various unions.
    • Represent the Company in the initial steps of the grievance procedures as well as preparation for arbitrations.
    • Interview, screen, and assist in the employment of hourly employees. Ensure adherence to recruiting targets by maintaining and updating candidate tracking system.
    • Maintain Company absentee program. Administer all employee leave programs.
    • Provide guidance for administration of company disciplinary policy. Counsel supervisors’ interpretation and give guidance to supervision on contract provisions, disciplinary action and discharge.
    • Develop and maintain Company Affirmative Action Program.
    • Facilitate employee orientation and training programs.
    • Serve as plant representative for internal and external requests.  Represent location on local, business unit, and company-wide HR projects.  Serve as exemplary company representative in community associations and functions.   
    • Identify and redesign work processes to eliminate non-value added aspects or limitations to the HR function.
    • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements through the understanding of existing and new legislation and enforcing adherence to those requirements.
    • Update job knowledge by participating in conferences and educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
    • Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
    • Support Operations Excellence in all aspects of the business operations and participate in the transformation of HR strategies and processes as part of continuous improvement procedures.
    • Support Employee training initiatives by scheduling, coordinating and assisting with the training itself. Track training and skills of hourly employees by maintaining an up to date training matrix.

    Required Experience

     

    Required Experience:

    • Five to seven years of related HR generalist experience, with five years in labor relations
    • HR experience in a union manufacturing plant environment
