HealthFitness has a great opportunity for a full-time HEALTH COMMUNICATIONS ADVISOR at our client site in Houston, TX. You will work closely with the client's Wellness and Productivity Team an internal group of consultants who provide health promotion and wellness services to the client’s operating companies (Opcos) globally to help them improve health, safety, and business performance. Advisors focus on health and wellness through consultation with Opcos regarding health risk identification and mitigation, wellness strategy and planning, injury prevention, and third party vendor services management.

    We are seeking a communications specialist with experience in health communication and/or public health to support Wellness and Productivity programming and broader health communications. In this role, you are comfortable developing material that is conversational, professional, accessible, and actionable. Having the experience to market and promote Health and Wellness programs and project manage the communication process is a skill you enjoy. You enjoy working independently and collaboratively, have experience drafting, giving and receiving feedback on content, and have outstanding project management and organization skills and attention to detail.

     

     JOB DESCRIPTION:

     

    • Develop appropriate strategic communication solutions in complex environments. As part of the Health and Productivity team, manage communication project timelines and continuity for Health and Productivity’s global initiatives of increasing complexity. Develop and design materials that drive employees’ behavior to end objective.  Align with the organization’s overarching health strategies and connect health communications to functional and corporate strategies.  Develop and manage content for health program communication campaigns, e-newsletters, newsletters, and Web. Write, edit, and format copy for a wide range of mediums, according to strict standards of quality, style, and voice.  Work creatively to provide new approaches to increase employee engagement and participation in health related programs.
    • Gather and review feedback on content from editors, usability professionals, and subject matter experts, and revise content appropriately. Review, incorporate, and approve edits on all written work prior to publication, including applicable group edits, peer edits, and copy edits. Support the organization in developing culturally and linguistically appropriate communications for targeted global employees. Support research of a variety of health- and wellness-related topics by distilling the most relevant actions and recommendations for a well-educated, lay audience. Work collaboratively with other editors in the peer editing process. Provide verifiable facts, dates, and statistics, using standard reference sources, as appropriate.
    • Support research of a variety of health- and wellness-related topics by distilling the most relevant actions and recommendations for a well-educated, lay audience.  Understand and abide by fundamentals of layout and design, including allocation of space for text, photos, and illustrations, headline writing, story placement, and copy significance.  Ability to synthesize information and develop simple and clear communications.
    • Monitor news-gathering resources to keep abreast of current health topics e.g. press releases, telephone contacts, Web resources, television, wire services, and other reporters. Adhere to strict copyright and permissions guidelines, and manage all submitted content accordingly, including researching, clarifying, or confirming permissions for submitted content. Manage calendar of Health and Productivity communication materials including vendor content, video, print and Web.
    • Adhere to strict deadlines and budget requirements for all assigned products.
    • Other duties as needed/assigned.

     

     

    REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
    • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in health communication and/or public health education.
    • Experience implementing health education theories and principles, user-centered design methods, and usability standards when developing content for the web and print.
    • Experience translating technical/medical information into global, corporate employee-friendly language.
    • Experience providing high level editing and writing with limited supervision.
    • Experience developing materials for audiences with limited (health) literacy skills.
    • Experience in creating and designing collateral for various media.
    • Experience working with web developers and with the process of user-centered design.
    • WILL BE REQUIRED TO FOLLOW ANY CURRENT OR FUTURE SITE COVID-19 VACCINATION POLICIES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO PROOF OF VACCINATION, WEEKLY TESTING, ETC.

     

    PREFERRED:

    • MPH or related public health master’s degree (relevant experience will be considered in place of degree).
    • Research skills.
    • Certified Health Education Specialist or equivalent.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • 7+ years of relevant experience
    • Bachelor’s Degree in ideally marketing, anthropology, sociology, psychology or other social science
    • Team leadership skills
    • Understanding of traditional, as well as modern primary research methods
    • Ability to translate research and analytics to insights
    • Proven ability to manage a team
    • Exceptional communication skills
    • Must be able to travel both domestic and internationally as necessary
    • Must be able to cover all costs associated with travel, to be reimbursed by the company in accordance with the company expense reimbursement policy
    • Overall, the successful candidate will be curious, courageous, and creative in their approach to problem solving
