SUMMARY
Provides indirect patient care in the office setting. Provides financial counseling to patients at the start of a new treatment/regimen. Works to obtain financial support from agencies like foundations and co-pay assistance cards including assisting the patient with completing application. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, office staff and the medical staff. Participates in performance improvement activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Ensures services are provided in an effective and efficient manner when providing, clerical and administrative support.
• Performs financial counseling by meeting with the patient to explain coverage and out of pocket
expenses based on physician’s orders.
• Enroll patients on financial assistance programs to help patient with out of pocket costs on an as needed basis. Generally, for patients that are uninsured or have high deductibles/co-pays.
• Checks eligibility for all insured patients scheduled in the Community Wide Scheduler module within Meditech for the Outpatient Infusion Center and in the Clinic
• Understands SVMC billing policies and procedures and can explain the policy to patients.
• Obtain authorization for all treatments and injections for all insurance companies.
• Answers the telephone in a professional and courteous manner Replies to voicemails daily.
• Documents properly in the patient chart in electronic medical record.
• Assists to co-workers as needed.
• Maintains a good working relationship with office staff members and physicians.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: High School Graduate or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year experience in medical office setting or hospital setting.
PREFERRED: Experience with billing and insurance preferred
