    HealthFitness has a great opportunity for an ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF AQUATICS at MIT in CAMBRIDGE MA! In this position, you will plan, organize, and manage all competitive aquatic events including NCAA Swim, Diving and Water Polo competitions, as well as state and regional age group and high school competitions.  You will also assume functional and administrative responsibility for the supervision and development of two Aquatic Supervisors and 40 lifeguards and will oversee the programming and development of the American Red Cross Health and Safety offerings.

     

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Direct, manage, mentor and evaluate a full time Aquatic Supervisor.
    • Recruit, hire, train, mentor, schedule and supervise all lifeguard personnel to ensure safety and the quality of programs, practices and events.
    • Manage all special events sponsored by the Aquatics Department (including varsity, club, outside rental groups).  This includes preparing and managing event budgets; organizing equipment, event set-up/breakdown and scheduling event support; serving as onsite event manager who respond and trouble shoot all issues during event operations.
    • Responsible for the planning, promoting, and management of all American Red Cross Training programs, expanding existing program offerings, as well as other outreach efforts. 
    • Act as a liaison between Aquatic Director and Lifeguards.
    • Attend administrative staff meetings.
    • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

     

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS:

     

    REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor’s Degree.
    • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications from American Heart Association, American Red Cross or American Safety & Health Institute.
    • CPR for Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Lifeguard and American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor.
    • Prior management experience working in aquatics, recreation, athletics, physical education or related field.

    PREFERRED:

    • Master’s Degree.
    • Experience managing various aquatic events and technical knowledge of both Hy-Tek Meet Manager and Colorado Timing Systems products.
    • Two to five years management experience working in aquatics, recreation, athletics, physical education or related field.
    • Certifications: Certified Pool Operator, SCUBA, Lifeguard Instructor/Trainer and WSI/Trainer.
