  • Responsibilities

    The Graphics Division of Lamar Advertising is now hiring a new Prepress Technician to help bring innovative advertising to life! Lamar Graphics (i.e. Lamar’s creative hub) in Baton Rouge is home to 70+ masterminds ranging from creative geniuses to technical experts.

    The Prepress Technician translates digital art files into a format that can be physically outputted by either a print or CNC (Computer Numerical Control) router for Transit art production. As such, a Prepress Technician also assumes the responsibility to answer questions of artists, both in-house and in the field/with agencies regarding the technical aspects of art creation.

    What you can expect from us:

    • A Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm work schedule.
    • An hourly rate of $17.25 / hour dependent on relevant experience and qualifications

    What we are looking for in YOU:

    • Ability to process basic Algebra and Geometry to measure and divide art into pieces suitable for production
    • Ability to retouch photos in cases where alterations are needed to be made to client provided art (when changes are not significant enough to send to the creative department)
    • Skill in performing operations with units (inch, foot, yard, etc.)
    • Possesses a critical eye for design to spot cases where something may have changed during art exporting or conversion
    • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
    • Critical eye for color and depth perception
    • Ability to work in logical and clear processes, organized in a way easily understood and followed by members on a team

    Education and experience:

    • High School diploma or equivalent required
    • Associate’s degree/3 years of college progress/Technical school is preferred, particularly in Graphic Design, Fine Art, Digital Photography, or a similar field of study
    • 1 - 2 years of experience in Graphic Design or drafting is preferred
    • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    A day in the life:

    • Build Transit templates and spec sheets using Adobe Illustrator
    • Process Transit art, produce print files, and post-production proofs
    • Discuss and resolve art and template issues with Account Services Coordinators and internal customers
    • Responsible for catching mistakes during art exporting or conversion, preventing misprinted art
    • Create vector paths and CNC tool paths for billboard extension kits
      • Vector path = A pin tool in Photoshop used to trace an outline for billboard art
      • CNC tool path = Created in ArtCam software, the CNC router uses mathematical plots to give the cutting bit a precise location and tool path to cut

    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    • The primary work environment is an office.
    • The physical demands for this position include light lifting, seeing (with a focus on reading), sitting more than 50% of the time, talking, and walking.
    • Nights spent traveling, away from home, are less than 10%.
