We are seeking a Packaging engineering intern to be onsite in our Wichita, Kansas facility starting in January 2024.

Johnson Controls’ Wichita operation designs, builds and distributes around one million pieces of residential heating and cooling equipment every year. The plant is the home of Unitary Products Group, which specializes in residential and light commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) products. Our Johnson Controls Wichita manufacturing facility is the largest non-aircraft manufacturing plant in Wichita

As a Packaging intern at Johnson Controls, you’ll be involved in projects that span a variety of product categories and packaging materials providing a diverse experience.  Packaging Engineers are domain specialists, excelling at the development of packaging solutions throughout the global products organization. In this role, you will exhibit a continuous improvement mentality, show passion for planning, implement and lead cost and damage reduction activities.  

What you will do

• Develop packaging solutions with a focus on optimizing packaging material design, processes, equipment, and Logistics & Distribution to minimize total cost and deliver high quality for our customers
• Support operations by developing packaging standards
• Document packaging specifications and ensure they are accurate and complete
• Actively monitor freight damage metrics and define corrective actions to minimize future issues
• Sustainability mentality, passionate about driving packaging that align with company objectives

What we look for

• Must be a currently enrolled student of an accredited Packaging Engineer Program or seeking an Industrial Engineering Degree
• Minimum 3.0 GPA required
• Good understanding of ISTA and ASTM testing standards 
• Strong written and verbal communicator 
• An effective communicator to all levels of the organization
• Able to work independently and lead projects to completion
• Ability to influence and manage relationships effectively
