What You'll Do Here: At National Geographic Learning, part of Cengage Learning, our goals are to bring the world to the classroom and the classroom to life. Our learning programs prominently feature the compelling content of National Geographic and TED Talks to inspire students to develop the skills they need to achieve success in life and work. We teach English and the world. The Associate Development Editor is part of the National Geographic Learning team and collaborates with in-house and out-of-house editorial staff to develop ESL (English as a Second Language) materials for print and electronic deliveryincluding student books, ancillary materials, and tech products. This role partners with a larger content development team to support authors on writing and structure of content, prepares necessary project documentation, and assists with completion of projects within deadlines and budgets. Works under the supervision of the publisher, executive editor, managing editor, and/or development director Assists in managing the development of materials for print and electronic deliveryincluding student books, ancillaries, and tech productsat all stages of the development process Analyzes content and write editorial development guidelines Under supervision, provide direction to writers in terms of content suitability, accuracy, style, format, and structure Reviews and fact checks content Rewrites content when directed Attends audio recordings and review audio Creates and maintain editorial schedules Tracks budgets Problem-solves daily process issues Prepares project documentation such as design memos, art logs, audio scripts, audio error reports, bookmaps Brings projects to completion within specified deadlines and budgets In coordination with the team, helps generate product surveys In coordination with the team, helps gather and analyze customer input Assists in entering, updating, and managing product information on internal systems (e.g. IPS) Helps organize and maintain project materials in repositories Helps coordinate and efficiently monitor the transmittal of materials between in-house staff and outside project members (freelancers, authors, etc.) Performs other duties as assigned to meet department goals Skills You Will Need Here: B.S. or B.A. degree or equivalent Minimum 2 years of ESL publishing and/or ESL teaching experience Strong organizational and interpersonal skills Excellent written and verbal communications skills Strong attention to detail Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while adhering to established deadlines Must be innovative, highly motivated, and team-oriented
