    Job Description

    PURPOSE OF JOB

    Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with neighborhood youth-oriented agencies and organizations in order to coordinate efforts to support a safe environment for all.  Engage with youth in a branch in an effort to maintain an atmosphere and environment conducive to library use and enjoyment with an emphasis on positive interactions. Assist the library staff to ensure that applicable Library policies and the Library Code of Conduct are followed. 

     

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with neighborhood stakeholders which may include law enforcement, City staff, school resource departments, and community organizations. 
    2. Works with teams at one or more locations because neighborhoods may encompass multiple branches. 
    3. Shares information about youth behavior as appropriate with designated neighborhood partners.
    4. Builds rapport and relationships with youth in the branch to promote a safe environment and engagement with library resources.
    5. Works with other staff to support positive youth engagement in the branch, including assisting with the design and execution of age-appropriate programming.
    6. Works to diffuse youth confrontations, mediate and reduce tensions and actively promote peaceful usage of the library.
    7. Supports library Policies and Procedures, including the Code of Conduct, by following up with customers when necessary; alerts Security Officer and manager about suspicious behavior.
    8. Follows up with parent/guardian when necessary.
    9. Utilizes computer applications and library equipment, maintains current knowledge of system-wide and location-specific procedures, processes, policies, and operations. Utilizes communication technologies to maintain communication. 
    10. Other duties as assigned.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

    1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with one to three years' of experience working with youth or High School diploma or G.E.D. with five to seven years’ of experience working with youth.
    2. Must be familiar with and possess experience working with children, youth, parents and families in at-risk neighborhoods.
    3. Possess a strong knowledge of and experience in implementing positive behavior support and de-escalation interventions.
    4. Must have the ability to develop a rapport with customers, especially youth.
    5. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and professionally with a wide variety of people in differing circumstances.
    6. Ability to think analytically and apply sound judgment, resolve problems, make effective decisions, act with integrity and handle pressure during an emergency. 
    7. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. 
    8. Ability to work as part of the location team in a library setting.

    SCHEDULE

    Combination of mornings, afternoons, evenings & weekends, alternating Friday & Saturday. Sundays as assigned.
