The Site Reliability Engineering Intern within the Retail Technologies team will focus on improving our systems availability, increasing our tooling & automation, and maturing our operations bringing a bias toward proactive data driven solutions. This intern will bridge the gap between developer and operations, using their full-stack knowledge to create automation for deployments, expand observability of the environment, participate in infrastructure build out design and automation, and identify and resolve issues across environments. -Responsibilities: -Manage architecture artifacts and delivery strategy for engineering solutions -Adhere to tooling development standards and prescriptions -Participate in implementation of complex engineering solutions across Retail Technologies -Ensure deliverables are high quality and sustainable -Challenge the status quo through intellectual curiosity and natural inquisitiveness to look beyond the obvious for continuous improvement opportunities -Manage and appropriately escalate delivery impediments, risks, issues, and changes tied to the engineering initiatives to the stakeholders -Identify recurring problems and build the tools and processes to prevent problems from recurring -Build the tools and processes to help quickly triage issues and identify the component(s) that need to be fixed -Basic Qualifications: -Technical knowledge of web application architecture -Familiarity with digital environments including Mobile, Web, Apps, APIs, Messaging, Databases, Big Data, Networks and their interactions -Familiarity with creating web architecture designs that incorporate resiliency and performance -Ability to learn and apply new technologies, quickly and effectively -Preferred Qualifications: -Experience programming in one or more of: Python, Perl, Ruby, Java, Node or C -Experience working in cloud environments, like AWS or Google Cloud -Experience with UNIX systems knowledge and/or systems administration background -Experience with automation tools like Rundeck, Chef, Puppet etc. -Trouble-shooting skills that span systems, network, and code -Experience with web-based Java/J2EE architectures -Experience in a large scale environment -Experience managing production container environment -Excellent written and verbal communications; ability to develop and deliver presentations -Required Education -Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class, or be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months at time of application, or be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program -Junior or Senior pursuing Computer Science degree, or equivalent achieved or in progress -Preferred Education -Currently pursuing Masters degree in Computer Science or related major -Additional Information: -The approximate dates of this internship are September 2018 through December 2018 -Candidate must be available to work full time hours (approximately 30 - 40 hours per week) for the duration of the internship -Able to provide own housing and transportation in the Glendale/Los Angeles area -Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program -Must possess unrestricted work authorization -Must be at least 18 years of age -About The Walt Disney Company (Corporate): At Disney Corporate you can see how the businesses behind the Companys powerful brands come together to create the most innovative, far-reaching and admired entertainment company in the world.
