As a UX Research Intern in the AR interaction team at Facebook Reality Labs in Redmond WA, you'll be tackling the most exciting challenges of informing the direction of augmented reality's future with the insights driven from analyzing human behaviors captured in data. You are passionate about advocating the fundamental needs of end users and full of new ideas for analyzing people's behaviors to inform AR/VR interactions. You must be willing to learn new methods and explore creative solutions to ambiguous problems. Your toolbox should consist of both quantitative and qualitative methods, such as surveys, A/B testing, log analysis as well as diary studies, user personas, and contextual user interviews. Our internship is twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year. RESPONSIBILITIES * Plan and execute cutting-edge research to advance AR/VR interaction technologies by drawing on scientific understanding of human memory and/or attention. * Collaborate with interaction designers, qualitative researchers, and machine learning researchers to develop a research project and analysis plan that can yield actionable insights for the team * Proactively involve various team members in the research process * Develop UX metrics and surveys as appropriate for repeated use and comparison over time * Share best practices & new techniques with the broader team MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * In the process of obtaining a PhD degree in the field of Information Science, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Experimental Psychology, Sociology or a related field * Currently enrolled in a full-time PhD program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship. * Demonstrated experience with developing and executing user research involving quantitative measures * Demonstrated experience with generative, iterative and evaluative research methods * Communication skills with experience tailoring message to a variety of audiences * Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration * Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment * Must be available for 12 or 16 week internship between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Experience in front-end research that informed design direction of hardware and/or software product or project using behavioral data in an industry setting * Experience in creating and validating surveys and psychometric instruments
