    SUMMARY OF POSITION:

    • Provide expert switch translations support for Frontier Communications telecommunications network, involving one or more switching systems or network elements (i.e., DMS-100/200, TOPS, DMS-500, DMS-10, DCO, GTD5, 5ESS, STP, or VoIP softswitch).
    • Provide high-level technical support and assistance to various internal and external work groups including Assignment/SPC, CO, Sales, Legal, Call Centers, Access Engineering, Carrier Services, Network Standards and Planning, Traffic Engineering, SS7 Engineering, Regulatory, Billing, NOC, vendors and end users (customers). This activity constitutes 25-40% of workload.
    • Provides coordination and development of projects; research, collect, analyze, and distribute data as it pertains to projects, new products, new services, enhancements to existing products and services, C.O. conversions, new equipment installations, property acquisitions, AMA Recording. Provide installation support for deployment, and conversions of new network elements, systems, and products.
    • Development and implementation of translation standards within the Frontier/Citizens network.
    • Design and prepare test procedures to optimize and validate the trunking and routing network, as well as the records sent to various billing systems.
    • Validate translations and functionality of SS7, CLASS, Equal Access, local and optional calling plans, and new products and services.
    • Provide high-level technical support to assist other company personnel in daily maintenance and troubleshooting of complex or unique software and/or hardware problems to correct errors and provide network stability and reliability.

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Knowledge, education, certification, and/or license requirements: 4-year degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field, plus 5 years of in-depth translations experience in an ILEC OR a minimum equivalent of 10 years of progressive network experience and 5 to 10 years of in-depth translations experience in an ILEC.
    • Certification and proficiency on two or more vendor-specific switching system(s), including training on network architecture and various facets of translations.
    • Specialized knowledge – subject matter expert in one technology (e.g., expert in a specific type of switch, SS7, VoIP, etc.).
    • In-depth knowledge of Equal Access routing and trunking; functional knowledge of ISDN, Centrex, CLASS features, SS7/AIN hardware and translations; familiar with OS/DA translations, AMA and EMI billing formats, DID/DOD trunking translations, NPA/NXX code opening process, SS7 protocol analysis, E800, LIDB, CNAM, GTT/Gateway Screening, LNP, TBP, and LD routing and trunking.
    • Must possess a basic knowledge of other internal operations and functions such as: Interconnection, Regulatory, Engineering, Network Operations, Field Operations, Provisioning, Billing, Tariffs, etc.
    • Must have a functional knowledge of supporting documentation, such as: LERG; Bellcore publications; LSSGR; vendor technical pubs; AMA/CDR/EMI documentation.
    • Must be able to interpret technical manuals and schematics.
    • Must possess good personal skills for time management, communication, and job prioritization.
    • Must be functional in Microsoft PC applications. Must be able to understand and apply new technologies, industry standards, and Telco practices and processes. Optional (desirable, but not essential): ability to develop script files to implement translations; familiar with Agilent AcceSS7; certification on Oracle Databases; C++ programming; and/or UNIX.
    • Physical requirements: extended periods of sitting and working in a PC environment; able to work overtime, weekends, and/or off-shift, as required to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines; must be able to respond to emergency situations (7x24x365); must maintain a valid Driver's License, as required for occasional travel to remote work assignments, seminars, meetings, or training.
