    Librarian 2 - Children's Library Systems amp; Services (LSamp;S) is seeking a full time Children's Librarian at the Medford Library in Medford, Oregon. The Children's Librarian, position is a senior level position in the Librarian job family. Under the general supervision of the Medford Branch Manager, performs professional level library services and works both independently and with other staff to execute small to large scale projects. Coordinates all activities of the childrens department, works alongside members of the Library Management Team and with other key stakeholders to develop policies, procedures, workflows and sustainable approaches for a variety of library programs and services and may assist the circulation desk as needed. May directly supervise and assign work to library associates and volunteers. This position cooperates with other staff members to meet the needs of the public, community, and the library. Medford is a city in, and county seat of, Jackson County, Oregon. Jackson County is located in the lush southern Oregon region and offers residents a rich history, arts amp; culture, outdoor adventure, and fine dining. RESPONSIBILITIES: Creates an environment in the childrens area which provides for enjoyable and convenient use of library resources. Supervise day-to-day operations of the Childrens Department (oversees two staff positions and several volunteers). Evaluates basic statistical data and prepares basic statistical reports and surveys for the library, LSamp;S management and other entities (i.e. local government/customers) Designs, promotes, executes, and evaluates programs for children of all ages Provides reference, computer, and readers advisory assistance Contracts with skilled resource people to presence specialized programming for children and parents Serves on committees and at times may serve as the chairperson for committees Coordinates class visits to the library Collaborates with school districts and community partners around shared goals May handle opening and closing responsibilities; counting money, completing daily cash reports Keep up with library and demographic trends to ensure the library is contemporary and utilizing best practices May oversee the work of others to achieve the library's operational goals Be responsible for the collection management process Know and understand the American Library Associations Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies). Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records. May serve as the liaison with the community and organizations serving the community May create and administer website/social media content for events and programming Create displays, online book lists, and flyers to advertise and promote daily activities QUALIFICATIONS: MLS or MLIS degree required Three years librarian experience preferred Knowledge of and previous use of library databases and services Ability to research and use a wide variety of library data bases Proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint Excellent customer service skills Strong written and verbal communications skills Multilingual speaking a plus Ability to work in a self-directed environment with minimal guidance Good organizational, time management and problem-solving skills Able to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings and weekends LSamp;S is an EOE; Veterans/Disability
