This internship will give student the advantage of accessing our online learning platforms and mentorship program to grow their skills exponentially while working directly with respected industry leaders. Network Operations (NetOps) is dedicated to the quality, reliability and integrity of the network systems that allow us to serve our customers. Here you will be working with bright minds that are the power behind the services that Charter provides. The program is 10 weeks in length and runs from June 2018 to August 2018. JOB SCOPE: As a member of the Security Operations team, the intern will be responsible for assisting the 24x7 Cyber Defense Center Incident Response team with various aspects of their roles. This role will include assisting with monitoring Charters network for suspicious activity, responding to security alerts, management of incidents via the incident response lifecycle, Splunk correlation creation and modification, and vendor communication, when necessary. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: -Ensures compliance with security standards, policies and procedures in all duties. Adheres to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable. -Assists with incident response and works with senior engineers to determine new rules and ways to detect potential incidents and intrusion attempts. -Assists with validation of Standard Operating Procedures, to include verbal discussions, tabletop exercises, and real-world scenarios. -Responsible for assisting teams in interpreting and applying network security policies and standards to mitigate security risks -Applies web application level security concepts to the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) -Creates remediation strategies with asset owners to resolve and communicate business risks associated with vulnerabilities to leadership. -Reviews work plans and designs; advises on improvements based on security requirements. -Works on assignments that will span one or more of the following areas: -Security Event Monitoring -Incident Response -Reporting & Metrics -Security System Support -Performs other duties as assignedBASIC QUALIFICATIONS: -Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Network Management or related field -Currently enrolled and completing the first year in a Masters Degree program at an accredited University -Must have at least a 3.0 GPA or greater in current Graduate programADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: -Must be willing to learn new concepts in the areas of security event monitoring, incident response, and security systems engineering. -Practical knowledge of incident response lifecycle -Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure -Must have very strong written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills. -Knowledge of what is required to prevent security exploits, how to detect security attacks and anomalies and how to respond to security incidents and intrusions. -General knowledge of related industry specifications and standards NIST, CSRIC, Firewalls, Intrusion Detection and Prevention, DNS, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols -Basic knowledge of network security design, network security architecture, TCP/IP protocols and topology -Knowledge of forensic methodologies and best practices to investigate intrusions, preserve evidence and coordinate a unified security response. -Ability to analyze and interpret data and synthesize recommendations -Demonstrated experience in managing information security events and incidents for large and sophisticated networks. -Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to work across functional boundaries, build consensus and drive results. -Must be a problem solver, able to balance competing priorities, have a strong process orientation and be able to manage through complexity and rapid change.WORKING CONDITIONS: -Office environment -No travel required The Spectrum brand is powered and innovated by Charter Communications.
