    Job Description

    WHO WE ARE

    The Data Management Organization (DMO) is chartered with managing Twitter’s data lifecycle. This function ensures company-wide consistency around discoverability, usability, and compliance, including privacy, security, and ultimately the data strategy. To that end, DMO builds data auditing & monitoring, discovery, and compliance assessment tools in an effort to digitize the Data Governance process across the organization globally. The Data Productivity team utilizes these tools to help our customers (Twitter’s Engineering and Product teams)

    Data Managers design and drive the implementation of data lifecycle processes and tools in collaboration with stakeholders from Legal, Security, Engineering, and Product teams from across Twitter. The ideal candidate will have a lot of passion for enterprise data architecture, data quality, privacy, and data protection, and has a knack for influencing key stakeholders using facts and insights. 

     

    EXAMPLE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

    • Analyze policies to define standards and rules

    • Articulate business, functional and technical requirements

    • Drive data warehouse, master data solutions 

    • Evangelize adoption standards and remediations

    • Foment stakeholder consensus

    SKILLS

    • Exceptional analytical and written/visual communication skills 

    • Ability to address both technical and non-technical audiences in the same context

    • Functional requirements gathering 

    • Ability to assess technical shared service environments, identify problem areas, champion continuous improvement initiatives and drive innovation

    • Positive, momentum-building evangelization with business and engineering stakeholders

    • General data analysis skills (SQL, spreadsheets, visualization)

    • General data presentation skills

    • Team oriented, incorporate feedback quickly and seamlessly

    • Self-starter who is looking to lead and advise rather than be told how to complete tasks

    • Know how to navigate and tackle ambiguous problems

    • Manage a portfolio of activities and resources across multiple functions: data lineage and metadata management, data quality monitoring and reporting, data operations, and platform business analysis support.

    • Lead stakeholders across the company in the maintenance of the platforms used for internal and external reporting

    • Be the subject matter expertise within data governance working groups and management committees

    • Can drive cross-functional teams to decisions

    REQUIRED

    • Demonstrated success working on large complex projects with multiple cross-functional stakeholders and discrete systems that handle data

    • Thorough understanding of data models, relationships, metadata management, and governance

    • Working knowledge of Hadoop, Vertica, MySQL databases and how they interact with data management tooling  

    • Understanding of PII, GDPR, and other data compliance standards both local and global

    • Experience with both operational and project responsibilities

    DESIRED

    • 5 years of data management/governance experience with a significant amount of experience leading data warehousing and/or data management projects

    • Experience with data privacy, compliance and security control enablement

    • Solid understanding of how to implement common data management/governance processes

    • Experience with data architecture, quality tools, and modeling

    • Programming or scripting experience 

    • Experience with Human/Computer Interface or User Experience design, particularly as it relates to using data
