    Job Description

    Twitter’s Mission Critical Engineering (MCE) team is looking for an experienced engineer to expand the team’s strength and knowledge in data center network and structured cabling design and operations. MCE manages the operational uptime of Twitter’s data centers. MCE is responsible for the design, construction and growth of the facilities to keep pace with our growing business.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

    • Understand the structured cabling and network system design of existing facilities supporting Twitter’s infrastructure

      • Participate with team in the development and oversight of operational procedures, maintenance and expansion of these facilities

      • Apply best practices and knowledge of operational standards

      • Coordinate fiber and network device deployments within team and amongst vendors and service providers

      • Commit to and deliver timely and cost effective projects

      • Publish/release RFPs, handle the bid selection and award of contracts

      • Coordinate across partner teams to define and reduce operational impacts

      • Follow company procedures for notification and communication

    • Oversee structured cabling and network operability

    • Understand the relationship between data center mechanical and electrical systems

    • Support fiber optics design and installation oversight

    • Work with Site Operations for special project deployment

    • Travel to data center facilities and work with Site Operations and service providers to coordinate projects supporting business needs/growth (up to 20% travel per year)

    • Define, improve, review procedures to improve communications and visibility within the company of the operations of the data centers

    • Write, review and approve Method of Procedures (MOPs)

    • Manage information repositories within the teams internal documentation system

    • Participate in design, construction, commissioning and operation of new and future facilities

      • Review designs and provide feedback for improvement in uptime and operational efficiency

      • Review submittals for comprehensive and complete gear ordering

      • Support commissioning activities, review Cx scripts and provide constructive feedback and support

      • Define new operational procedures and maintenance logs

    • Great oral, written and procedural communications for Mission Critical operations

    • Rigorous dedication and discipline for operational procedures and definitions

    • Punctual and responsive

    • Demonstrate ownership of fiber optic layouts and project deployments

    • Balanced vendor management of fiber installers that maintain Twiter’s interests and long-term sustainability

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Minimum 6+ years experience in data center troubleshooting and operations

    • Minimum 2 to 4 years supporting Linux OS in server based platforms

    • Advanced server based platform troubleshooting skills

    • Experience understanding of data center networking and network technologies

    • Previous experience in data center power, copper and fiber cabling

    • Established knowledge of Mac OS
