    Job Description

Company Description Twitter serves the public conversation by encouraging people all over the world to connect, learn, debate, and solve problems together. We believe conversation can change the world, and that’s why Tweeps (that’s what we call Twitter employees) come to work every day.

Job Description You will work closely with our partners in Cortex and in the broader Product, Engineering, Design, and Research organizations. Cortex is a community of Machine Learning Researchers and Engineers, working to help Twitter leverage and advance ML through practical / product-driven problem spaces in a range of systems such as recommendations, safety, abuse, content understanding (NLP), ads, and more.

Data Scientists at Twitter work backwards from a deep understanding of business problems and objectives to drive business impact through the application of data science. As a Cortex Data Scientist, you will be expected to develop a deep understanding of the product problem space. You will work closely with our partners to identify areas where Machine Learning can have the greatest impact. You will validate hypotheses, establish robust problem definitions, and set clear North-Star metrics of success. You will collaborate with Cortex to improve model development and help steer efforts towards the right solutions - you will develop and maintain benchmark datasets and any necessary data pipelines, identify new and impactful model features, critically review offline and online model performance, and help build MVPs. You will also employ observational causal inference and A/B testing to measure the business impact of the Cortex team.

    Qualifications

    • Advanced degree in a quantitative field (PhD preferred) or commensurate work experience.
    • 5+ years of experience as a data scientist in a tech environment.
    • Expertise solving complex and highly impactful quantitative business problems with at least one scripting language (Python, R, etc.) and SQL on data from modern warehousing systems.
    • Experience with one or more of the following in an applied setting: developing modelling frameworks to understand customers and their behaviours, building machine learning algorithms to solve business problems, observational causal inference techniques for measuring business impact, advanced statistical techniques for A/B testing.
    • Knowledgeable of core CS concepts such as common data structures and algorithms
    • Ability to create/improve reproducible analysis libraries.
    • Comfortable conducting design, code and analysis reviews.
