    Job Description We are currently accepting applications for the following Internships: (Fall Quarter) New Day Northwest Take 5 News Evening Sports Community Relations ________________________________________________________ New Day Northwest Intern* Hours: Monday Thursday, 7:30am 12:30pm 10 weeks, 20 hours/week Duties: New Day Northwest interns will work with guests before and during show tapings each morning; managing guests and backstage during show, cueing in studio, assisting with guests and show props. Interns will also assist producers as needed during segments. Interns also write and produce segment stories for the website as well as cutting show video to appear on website. Qualifications: Interns should be in their junior or senior year, and have a valid driver's license. Computer/typing skills required. Excellent communication and research skills. Desire to pursue a career in broadcasting. Take 5 News Intern* Hours: (weekdays) 10 weeks, 20 hours/week Duties: KING 5s 4pm show intern will have the opportunity to play an active and collaborative role helping the show team with everything from story ideas to audience engagement to representing the perspective of their generation. The intern will be responsible for social media listening and content creation; story pitching, research and planning; and production help. Qualifications: Solid research and communication skills, social media savvy - and not afraid to share their ideas. An awareness of and curiosity in multi-screen journalism, the Seattle community, and trends in both daily news and the media industry in general is a must. Experience with digital publishing tools, image and video editing software and social media strategy that goes beyond posting stuff is encouraged. Evening* Hours: Flexible (6 months) Duties: "Evening" interns perform production assistant duties such as story research (internet, library, wire services), tape dubbing, pulling file video, assisting crews in the field and completing miscellaneous errands. They attend story pitch meetings and are expected to research and pitch stories. Interns are also the primary liaison for viewers: returning phone calls, researching story information, accepting story pitches, responding to e-mail, etc. Qualifications: Intern should be in their junior or senior year, and have a valid driver's license. Computer/typing skills required. Excellent communication and research skills. Desire to pursue a career in broadcasting. Sports Intern* Hours: Flexible (including weekends) 10 weeks, 20 hours/week Duties: Assist sports producers with production of sportscasts, log tapes of sports events, assist on sports shoots and live shots, research sports stories and might be on-air in some capacity for the Friday Night High School Football Show. The intern will also aid in the production of the 5 th Quarter show that airs on Sundays. Qualifications: Interns should be in their junior or senior year majoring in Communications, Broadcasting, or Journalism. Community Relations Intern* Hours: Flexible 10 weeks, 20 hours/week Duties: Help KING 5 manage its outreach in the community by communicating with non-profit partners, coordinating emcee engagements with KING 5 talent and updating the KING 5 Community website and Facebook page. Youll be intimately involved with the planning and execution of events and campaigns, both internally at KING 5 and around western Washington. (Specific events vary by season but include Home Team Harvest, Konnected, Beat The Bridge, Obliteride, American Heart & Stroke Walk, etc).This is an opportunity to see how marketing, sales, programming and the news departments all work together in order to make KING 5 the number one choice for viewers and community organizations in Western Washington. Qualifications: Interns should be in their Junior or Senior year of college, majoring in Communications, Marketing, or related field. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, possess proficient organization and computer skills, and have the ability to juggle several projects. Availability for occasional weekend hours a plus. Job Requirements What does KING 5 look for in an intern? Is college credit for my internship required? Yes. Confirmation from the University of enrollment in the for-credit internships will be required. The allocation of college credit is at the discretion of your local college or university. Students are responsible for meeting any university registration requirements. The final authority on credits received remains with the university and/or its designated representative. How many hours are required for internships? Generally, internships are available year round. Most internships are one quarter long (approximately ten weeks). Evening Magazine internships are for six months. The number of part-time and full time internships available may vary from quarter to quarter. Hours are to be arranged according to the needs of the department and the scheduling requirements of individual interns. Most part time interns will work at least 20 hours per week, with specific days and times agreed upon in advance. Are internships paid or unpaid? Internships are paid $15 per hour.
