Responsibilities The VMLY&R New York Summer Internship Program is a 10-week long paid internship from the duration of June 3rd through August 9th 2019 designed to offer college students the opportunity to learn about a career in advertising. Internships are available in the following departments: Account Management Creative Brand Planning PR Broadcast Production/Content Social Media BAV Group Department Descriptions: Account Management The Account Management team are the brand stewards that helps drive the strategy, thinking and overall direction of an account. To be effective, they must be able to entrench themselves in a clients business, understanding the clients business model, opportunities and challenges in the context of the competitive landscape. They can effectively communicate to the client and team in order to successfully deliver differentiated, quality work. They are quick thinkers and problem solvers and yield the respect of all those around them. They can balance the clients wants with their needs, all while managing and leading a team to success. Candidates should be creative thinkers with strong analytical skills, have exceptional communication skills, strong leadership experience and good organizational skills. Brand Planning The Brand Planning department takes a lead role in developing brand and communication strategies for clients. At the heart of the discipline is an understanding of the needs and wants of the consumer. The Brand Planning department must be able to get inside the minds of consumers and learn not just about what the consumers do, but why they do it. Brand planners are assigned to specific accounts and work as advisors to our client, account management, creative and media. They guide the client and other agency departments through developing, refining and evaluating potential communications strategies and creative work based upon their understanding of the consumer. Successful candidates have a natural curiosity about people, along with excellent communication and organizational skills. In addition, candidates should have a strong aptitude for analyzing and interpreting human behavior in focus groups and quantitative data from research studies, and be computer literate (specifically Excel) is required. Broadcast Production/Content The Broadcast Production/Content department produces TV and Radio commercials. Producers hire the performers, director, location, editor, etc. They coordinate budgets, manage the production of the commercial, and handle any last minute problems that may arise. Candidates should be attentive to detail, have good organizational skills, have effective negotiating skills, and show some creative ability. Relevant coursework would include: film studies, computer graphics, TV production and communications. Experience with a campus radio station or A/V department would be helpful. Creative (Copywriter, Art Director) The Creative department develops the ideas, images, and words that make up commercials and ads. While many people in the agency contribute to the process, the creation and production of advertising is mainly the responsibility of copywriters and art directors. A successful Copywriter will not only have outstanding skills in writing, but also have a love affair with words and symbols and their use in communication. In addition, some knowledge of marketing and how words and visuals have been used in advertising is required. Candidates for the Art Director will have strong visual-concept skills and good design ability. They will also have strong computer graphic skills (Adobe PhotoShop, Quark, and Illustrator), good visual imagination, and an interest in applying that ability to marketing and advertising problems. Qualifications Wed love if it you: Rising juniors going into your senior year of undergraduate studies Maintaining a minimum G.P.A. of 3.4(out of 4.0) or equivalent Engaged in extracurricular activities that demonstrate broad intellectual curiosity and creativity Skilled in writing, strong communication and analytical skills Interested in the field of advertising Application Procedure: Please submit the following information by March 15, 2019: Cover letter and resume ( must include the department of interest ) One essay that describes why you are interested in the advertising industry* A copy of your portfolio and/or spec work from school projects** *The essay should be between 1-3 pages in length, typed, double-spaced and paginated with your name in the upper right-hand corner of each page. ** Required for an internship in the creative department.
