UX/UI DESIGN INTERN POSITION (HYBRID/REMOTE)

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE/SCOPE

At BD Biosciences, our purpose is to empower scientists and doctors to transform lives, one cell at a time. The summer internship program at BD Biosciences in San Jose, California, provides students hands-on exposure to BDB, a leading provider of innovative tools that drive a deeper understanding of the human immune system and unlock its unique power to fight diseases like cancer, HIV, and COVID-19.

As part of a global organization, you may work within cross-functional or interdisciplinary teams while collaborating and supporting multiple internal partners and customers. The internship program will provide endless opportunities to engage with peers, senior personnel, and supervisors who will provide informal mentoring and coaching.

Throughout our summer internship, students will build an extensive professional network, learn how to work in an engineering/scientific environment, build and hone UX/UI skills, and deliver business presentations showcasing their work. BD's summer internship program is a great opportunity to gain exposure to biotechnology and BD’s culture.

We are recruiting for highly driven design students with a passion for innovation, product development and working in biotechnology.

The candidate is responsible for all housing and transportation costs.

PROJECT AREAS:

Each R&D intern will be assigned an individual project to lead and drive to further develop their technical expertise in the UX/UI Design space. During your summer internship, you will have the opportunity to work in the following areas:

• Support execution of technical and/or cross-functional project work as part of a scrum-based agile team

• Ensure the implementation and rigor of product development processes and design control procedures

• Conduct user experience research and design validation

• Communicate ideas and concepts to stakeholders through storyboarding, wireframing and prototyping

• Support the development of a design system to apply organizational uniformity and solidify brand recognition

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction as to duration.

• Ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the 10 - 12-week summer internship period.

EDUCATION

• BS/MS/PhD student pursuing a degree in Human Computer Interaction, Design, Cognitive Scienceor Molecular Biology/Immunology (with Design interest).

EXPERIENCE

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

• Ability to understand complex workflows and develop and validate innovative solutions

• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills and an aptitude for learning new technologies

• Ability to deal with ambiguity, take initiative and deliver results

• Understanding of the user-centered design process and UX research techniques

• Proficient with industry standard design tools (such as Figma, Sketch, Balsamiq, Adobe Creative Cloud); must have a portfolio to showcase your work.

• Some knowledge / coursework in biology, molecular biology or immunology.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prior internship/co-op experience

• Prior experience in UX/UI design, human computer interaction, and user research

There are many factors, such as location, that contribute to the range displayed. The salary offered to a successful candidate is based on experience, education, skills, and actual work location. Salary ranges may vary for Field-based and Remote roles.

SALARY RANGE INFORMATION

$80,600.00 - $132,900.00
