PROGRAM OBJECTIVE/SCOPE

BD Medical is among the world's leading suppliers of medical devices and a leading innovator in injection- and infusion-based drug delivery. We are passionate about providing innovative solutions to reduce the spread of infection, improve diabetes treatment and advance drug delivery. With our technical capabilities, the Medication Management Solutions (MMS) teamare able tomanage multiple systems and our operational capabilities enable us to have medications available when and where needed, reducing inefficiency and waste for nursing and pharmacy teams. The summer internship program within MMS Research and Development (R&D) at BD provides the student with an opportunity to partner with peers, senior personnel, and supervisors who will provide informal mentoring and coaching towards success. Students will have the opportunity to be exposed to our process of designing and developing medical device products for different global markets. Selected students may work within cross-functional or interdisciplinary teams and may have multiple internal partners and customers. Each intern will have an individual project and the opportunity to develop technical engineering expertise. Through our summer internship, students develop an extensive professional network, learn how to work in an engineering environment, build hands-on laboratory skills, and deliver business presentations showcasing their work. The summer internship program is a phenomenal opportunity to gain exposure to the medical device industry and BD's culture. We arerecruiting fora highly driven engineering/science student with a passion for product development and the medical device industry. The candidate is responsible for all housing and transportation costs.

PROJECT AREAS:

Each MMS R&D intern will be assigned an individual project to further develop technical engineering expertise. During your summer internship, you will have the opportunity to work in one of the following teams:

MATERIALS SCIENCE & ENGINEERING Project examplesinclude:material evaluation for optimization in product development, effects of material selection on manufacturing processes and operations, and material analysis for cost reduction/savings.

MECHANICAL AND BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING Project examplesinclude:pressure testing of syringe products, development of automated testing strategies, product design for compliancetoregulatory standards, evaluation of complex mechanical product interactions, and destructive testing and analysis.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Project examplesinclude:system prototyping for high voltage supply circuits, RFID system experimentation to test limits of assembled design, and developing electrical systems for measurement of intricate products.

SOFTWARE ENGINEERING TEAMS Project examplesinclude:web application, mobile application, and embedded application prototyping, development, & testing within an enterprise development team, development operations research & tool automation, and best practice agile methodology research & applied methods.

SYSTEM ENGINEERING TEAMS

Project examplesinclude:user needs analysis, system hazards analysis, system & product level requirements elicitation, use case modeling, reliability & fault tolerance research, define & measure system performance baselines, assess system & product security, conduct verification & validation planning. NOTE: Project assignment is not determined by major.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• BS and/or MS/PhD student pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Material Science & Engineering, Polymer Science, or Computer Science & Engineering.

Experience:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the 10 - 12-week summer internship period.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prior internship/co-op experience
