BD SUMMER INTERN PROGRAM 2023 - QUALITY ENGINEER INTERN, MMS INFUSION

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

BD Medical is among the world's leading suppliers of medical devices and a leading innovator in injection and infusion-based drug delivery. We are passionate about providing innovative solutions to reduce the spread of infection, improve diabetes treatment and advance drug delivery. With our technical capabilities, the Medication Management Solutions (MMS) team is able to manage multiple systems and our operational capabilities enable us to have medications available when and where needed, reducing inefficiency and waste for nursing and pharmacy teams. The BD MMS division is seeking to attract highly motivated undergraduates for on-site (San Diego, California) summer internship who want to acquire practical work experience within Quality. This encompasses, Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, and Continuous Improvement. As an intern, you can expect projects that are both challenging and rewarding. You will work under the management of a BD associate who serves as your mentor to aid and assist in your transition into the corporate environment. As part of the broader BD Intern Program, Quality Interns participate in various networking events, career development sessions and team building activities. This program offers the opportunity to connect with company management, learn how functional groups collaborate to accomplish goals, and gain real-world experience in a role supporting Quality initiatives.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Intern will support the BD Alaris Infusion production line in the following ways:

• Develop and implement statistical analysis to monitor production performance

• Use data analytics to identify and suggest high impact improvement opportunities

• Perform technical failure investigations to understand failure modes and their underlying causes

• Work collaboratively among the cross-functional technical team to develop and implement solutions

• Measure the benefits of the improvements to production performance

• Present solutions & results to senior management

• Gain valuable engineering experience demonstrating your creative problem-solving skills on real-life technical issues

• Gain exposure to working in the critical field of health care technology

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE

• Investigative engineering to determine root causes for product failures

• Test fixture and process engineering/validation

• Alaris infusion systems functional testing

• Developing solutions to routine problems of moderate scope

• High level application of technical principles, theories, concepts, and quality sciences / tools

• Develop a solid understanding of applicable regulatory requirements (i.e. 21CFR820.198 and ISO 90001: 2015)

• Communicates across functions / departments for assigned areas of responsibility

• Provides audit support

• General support of R&D and Sustaining design change project

• Generate & maintain accurate records for Quality Systems documents using SAP / Trackwise & other company databases ensuring records are compliant to the company QMS

• Perform document processing, distribution and filing of controlled copies using manual and electronic systems per established procedures

• Generate charts and presentation material to report Quality Metrics for the assigned work area as required by Management

INTERNSHIP QUALIFICATIONS

• Undergraduate student working towards a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences or Quality Sciences (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering minor a plus)

• Prior internship or Co-op experience in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field desired, but not required

• Proven technical proficiency and strong leadership skills

• Ability to learn quickly, deal with ambiguity, take initiative and achieve results

• Excellent written and communications skills

• Proven organization and time management skills
