MMS R&D Systems Engineering Summer Internship

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE/SCOPE

The summer internship program within Research and Development at BD provides the student with an opportunity to partner with peers, senior personnel, and supervisors who will provide informal mentoring and coaching towards success. Students will have the opportunity to be exposed to our process of designing and developing medical device products for different global markets. Selected students may work within cross-functional or interdisciplinary teams and may have multiple internal partners and customers. 

Each intern will have an individual project and the opportunity to develop technical engineering expertise. Through our summer internship, students develop an extensive professional network, learn how to work in an engineering environment, build hands-on laboratory skills, and deliver business presentations showcasing their work. The summer internship program is a great opportunity to gain exposure to the medical device industry and BD’s culture. 

We are recruiting for a highly driven engineering student with a passion for product development and the medical device industry. The candidate is responsible for all housing and transportation costs. 

PROJECT AREAS

As an engineering intern within BD MMS R&D, you will have the opportunity to work on the following team:

SYSTEM ENGINEERING TEAM

Project examples include creating and refining product requirements, developing product use cases, testing of infusion pump products, product design for compliance to regulatory standards , and simulation and modeling of control algorithms.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

• The candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States without limitations and require no sponsorship for visa status now or in the future (e.g. H1-B status)

• BS and/or MS/PhD student pursuing a degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word,and PowerPoint

• Ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the 10 - 12 week summer internship period.

PREFERRED:

• Prior internship/co-op experience

• Proficiency in Minitab, MATLAB

• BS Degree: All levels are encouraged to apply.
