    Stryker Software Engineer Intern to join our dynamic and growing organization. You will be responsible for the implementation of the server application stack for our Edge product. We use broadly adopted server-side technologies including Spring, Tomcat, Kafka, Vault, and Zookeeper, among others. This is a terrific opportunity to be a part of a well architected, distributed stack positioned to move to the cloud and adopt cloud native patterns. This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Software Engineering, Edge.

    • Impact the development and manufacturing of cutting edge products

    • Implement new ideas, be constantly challenged, and develop your skills


    • Contribute to the planning, design and development of highly scalable, low latency services for our critical Vocera Edge platform to deliver reliable communications and workflow solutions

    • Follow SOLID design principals, design patterns, and apply them to address specific product requirements

    • Contribute to all phases of the development lifecycle including analysis, design, code (functional, test, test automation), and documentation

    • Research customer issues, determine appropriate resolutions, and report findings back to the team

    • Collaborate effectively with the product lane development teams and other teams to ensure features are effective

    • Document your designs and product capabilities as needed

    • Collaborate across teams to create development and QA best practices and processes


    • Intermediate knowledge of Java

    • Understanding of Spring framework a plus

    • Understanding of networking and web server technology a plus

    • A passion for the end-to-end development of quality software products

    • Debugging and documentation skills

    • Proactive, well-organized self-starter, able to work independently

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work within a diverse team


    • Basic course work in Java programming language, object-oriented analysis and design patterns

    • Past experience in a Java-based Agile scrum team a plus

    • Familiarity with SCM, code review processes, Agile development methodologies

    • Currently working on completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field or equivalent; we will only consider students who plan to be enrolled in a degree-seeking program after the summer

    • Cumulative 3.0 GPA or above; must be the case at the date of hire and also will be verified during background check in the spring

    • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and not require employment-based sponsorship now or in the future.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow

    • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm

    • Ability to exercise independent judgment

    • Proficient on basic computer programs: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint

    • Proven leadership and business acumen skills

    • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines

    • Strong interpersonal skills
