    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION AND TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES:

    The Wayside Day Center serves the adolescent population (12-18), who struggle with a myriad of mental health issues and are seeking services due to a mental health crisis.

    The Day Center provides services to youth who are struggling with acute mental health symptoms and are seeking more intensive therapeutic services to stabilize and resume baseline functioning. It is a voluntary program, lasting approximately two weeks, comprised of psychiatry services (1x/week), individual therapy (2x/week) and therapeutic groups (4 groups/day). Interns can expect to gain experience in providing diagnostic assessments; individual therapy; group therapy and family therapy; case management, treatment planning; utilization review; crisis intervention, and aftercare planning. Interns are expected to facilitate individual & family therapy as well as facilitate group therapy. This site is a placement for interns who want to increase their skills and knowledge in assessment and crisis intervention. Interns are supported by licensed supervisors and an experienced clinical team.

    Founded in 1977, Wayside Youth & Family Support Network is a non-profit, nationally accredited human service agency headquartered in Framingham, Massachusetts dedicated to building strength, hope and resiliency in youth, families and our local communities. Wayside is one of Massachusetts’ most respected child and family serving agencies with 19 program locations across Central, Eastern and Northeastern Massachusetts serving more than 6,000 children, young adults and families each year. Wayside staff and clinicians provide community trainings in schools, to mental health providers and in collaboration with community partners. Wayside is a teaching and training facility that provides graduate and undergraduate students withinternships and clinical placement.

  • Qualifications

    INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

    • Seeking 2 nd year Master Level interns
    • Work 24 hours per week and attend weekly staff meetings on Wednesday.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • A background in health and human services or related field preferred
    • Interest in work in a face-paced environment

    • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole desirable, not required.
    • MANDATORY SCHEDULE: Preservice orientation is required prior to start of internship. Wayside’s preservice is four days and includes Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training. Second-year graduate interns only. Hours are 24 hours a week over three separate days. Day Center hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Staff meetings are held every Wednesdays and attendance is required.
