    DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM AND TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES:

    Wayside MetroWest Community Services serves a variety of people with serious emotional disturbances through community based interventions: Intensive Care Coordination, Mobile Crisis Intervention,In-Home Therapy, Family Support and Stabilization, Therapeutic Mentoring, Youth Support and Outpatient therapy. We utilize Wraparound, Motivational Interviewing and strength-based models of care to see families not only in the office but also in their homes and provide intensive wrap-around, family-centered, solution-focused treatment. As a member of the site team, interns will have theopportunity to work in collaboration with staff as well as independently with multi-stressed families across multiple settings.

    This internship would serve as a member of Pride Side. Pride Side is comprised of a team of staff who can serve as a clinical resource for mental, emotional and behavioral health issues surrounding LGBTQ+ youth and families. This staff team identify as LGBTQ+ to the clients they serve as a way to offer positive role models for clients who are LGBTQ+.

    Wayside has partnership with OUT MetroWest, a vibrant, local, grassroots organization established to provide a safe space for LGBTQ+ youth support group gatherings. Wayside PrideSide staff attend OUT MetroWest programming to serve as a clinical resource to the youth who attend their support groups, as well as a clinical training resource for their staff and team.

    METRO WEST OFFERS THESE PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH:

    • Umbrella is a trans-facilitated program for transgender and gender non-conforming high school youth.
    • WAGLY is a youth-led, adult-supported program for all LGBTQ high school youth.
    • This Intern would need to be able to attend one or both of these groups as part of the internship.
  • Qualifications

    INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

    • Intern must be available a minimum of 20 hours/week and have the ability to work two evenings a week.
    • A background in health and human services or relatedfield preferred.
    • Second/final year interns only.
    • Intern must have strong communication skills both written and verbal.
    • Intern must be comfortable in a variety of settings including office, home visits and community meetings.
    • Valid driver’s license required and working vehicle.
    • CORI check and completion of Wayside’s Pre-service Orientation.
    • Perform intakes, assessments, treatment plans/individual care plans, follow up care and on-going treatment.
    • Weekly attend and participate in staff meeting and intern seminar.
    • Coordinate care for families and individuals including seeking other services and resources as well as collaborating with a variety of systems and providers.
    • Attend Pride Side Meeting every other monthand LGBT+ Coalition also every other month both take place on Wednesdays.
