    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION AND TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES:

    Wayside Multi-Service Center works directly with youth in the community to increase wellness related to mental health, substance use prevention and racial and gender equity. The Peer leaders are part of a The Watertown Youth Coalition (WYC) along with key stakeholders and other concerned people working to increase positive outcomes for youth and their families. We collaborate with other agencies and organizations in Watertown and add value with the work of the Peer Leadership Program. Interns will gain valuable experience providing support for adolescent youth while they work to educate peers, increase positive coping skills and decrease negative consequences of racial and gender inequities. We utilize the Strategic Prevention Framework (SAMHSA) to ensure a consistent assessment process and increase capacity of the Coalition members to achieve positive outcomes. Interns will have opportunities to attend educational webinars and workshops through Wayside to support the work they will do with the Peer leaders and coalition.

    ASSISTING THE PEER LEADER ADVISOR:

    • Planning meetings (once a week) Usually in the evening
    • Staff Meetings usually on Thursdays
    • Conducting research when needed
    • Attend Meetings with Peer Leaders
    • Attend Community Meetings related to the work of Youth Wellness, Racial and Gender Equity, Mental Health awareness and substance misuse prevention. (1-2 times per month)
    • Increase youth engagement.
    • Educating youth on wellness related topics
    • Small grant writing opportunities (if applicable)
    • Attend meetings, educational seminars, workshops and webinars as applicable.
    • Assist in meeting prep including activities/ food purchasing for meetings and events/coordinate projects and activities Peer Leaders are providing to Peer Community.
    • Attend Staff meeting when appropriate and schedule permitting.

    ABOUT WAYSIDE : Founded in 1977, Wayside Youth & Family Support Network is a non-profit, nationally accredited human service agency headquartered in Framingham, Massachusetts dedicated to building strength, hope and resiliency in youth, families and our local communities. Wayside is one of Massachusetts’ most respected child and family serving agencies with 19 program locations across Central, Eastern and Northeastern Massachusetts serving more than 6,000 children, young adults and families each year. Wayside staff and clinicians provide community trainings in schools, to mental health providers and in collaboration with community partners. Wayside is a teaching and training facility that provides graduate and undergraduate students withinternships and clinical placement.

    INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

    • Undergrad Interns are encouraged to apply.

    • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Proficient in English, additional languages a plus
    • MANDATORY SCHEDULE: Includes attending however many days of preservice, number of hours/days & mandatory meetings
