  • Responsibilities

    The selected individual will be expected to work as a highly functioning team member of the Division of Interpretation. They will provide front-line interpretative services including working at the park's visitor center information desk, working at the park's Memorial Building, while providing both informal and formal interpretive programs. The selected individual will be required to study, research and develop their own formal interpretive programs to present to the public, within the interpretive framework given to them during park orientation training.

    At the Birthplace Unit, the selected individual will present formal interpretive programs to a wide range of visitors with different interest levels. They will also present a programs geared for children called "Life with Little Abe" that include various hands-on activities such as handling various animal furs, skulls and scat as well as demonstrating games and toys used by children on the Kentucky frontier. The selected individual will also work at the Boyhood Home Unit at Knob Creek and will provide both formal and informal interpretive programs to the public. Other interpretive opportunities at this site include providing a program for children involving "hands-on" activities, living history presentations in historically accurate period reproduction clothing, working in the living history interpretive garden as well as assisting with the presentation of Night Sky programming.

    Other events and activities that the selected individual will be involved with throughout the year will include the annual "Walk Through Lincoln's Life" event, which is a 2-day educational outreach event the park hosts every September geared specifically for area school children. They will also be involved during the annual community-hosted "Lincoln Days" event in October. The park is one of the many community partners for the event and the selected individual will help staff the park's booth. Other events the selected individual will be involved, in addition to the activities listed above are outreach events to local schools and civic organizations, National Park Week activities and National Jr. Ranger Day Activities.
