The Adventure Ropes Specialist provides teambuilding experiences on a low and high ropes course at Skylark Ranch. On the low element ropes course, they will also provide ground based initiatives, that are safe, fun and appropriate to the campers’ ages and abilities. At the high ropes course, they provide a teambuilding / adventure experience on a high element ropes course and/or climbing wall, that is safe, fun and appropriate to the campers’ ages and abilities. They are responsible for planning, teaching, and assisting in coordination of climbing activities and guide campers in their personal growth and teamwork development. Management of the physical operation of all ropes courses and related equipment. Promote high standards in all aspects of the camp program. Serve as a role model to campers and staff by your actions, appearance, manners, language, and general conduct. Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Deliver fun and intentional challenge programming to campers.
- Write lesson plans that meet camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers.
- Evaluate ropes course abilities of campers and staff.
- Deliver progressive and innovative teambuilding activities.
- Evaluate the success of the teambuilding program and the development of the camper's’ abilities and skills in challenge and teambuilding.
- Coordinate and collaborate on a schedule for the low element and high ropes course program.
- Expand the camp’s activities with new games and initiatives.
- Plan intentional programming that incorporates our mission, the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
- Submit an Adventure Ropes Specialist report at the end of the camp season.
- Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety procedures in the challenge course.
- Assist in the implementation of staff training for challenge activities, high ropes, and climbing activities.
- Provide guidelines for a program utilizing the initiatives and the low element ropes course, high ropes course/climbing wall.
- Train other staff in their challenge responsibilities including spotting and belaying at the high ropes course.
- Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures for challenge and ropes activities.
- Ensure that ACA standards, state codes, and guidelines from GSNorCal and GSUSA regarding challenge programs are being followed.
- Management and care of the physical facilities and equipment for the challenge program.
- Ensure the security of the low element and high ropes course when not in use and ensure area is off-limits to bystanders when in use.
- Conduct daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
- Clean ropes course daily, keeping it free of hazards and debris.
- Maintain the challenge course equipment, high ropes, climbing equipment, and elements.
- Provide superior client service to all campers, parents/families, staff, volunteers and vendors.
- Identify client needs, make suggestions, initiate and follow through with appropriate action.
- Be a positive role model to campers and staff.
- Participate as a member of the program staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, trips, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Assist on camper arrival and departure days.
- Live in unit with campers and provide supervision and support in various roles to Counselors.
- Other duties as assigned.
