    summary The Strategic Communications Advisor will design and implement a strategy to significantly increase ChildFund’s visibility with external audiences such as policymakers, donors and the media to spur momentum and progress for children and youth globally. ChildFund promotes positive outcomes for children through advocacy in the U.S. and programming in communities in twenty countries in Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

    This role is situated within the External Engagement team and will liaise closely with other teams such as the Communications team as they develop a communications strategy that translates our programmatic and policy successes into compelling narratives. ChildFund has been operating in local communities since 1938, working with local implementing partners, governments, children, their families, and other partner organizations to help create the safe environments children need to thrive. The Strategic Communications Advisor will help expand our ability to illustrate the value and impact of ChildFund’s transformational work and will allow young people to tell their own stories about issues facing their communities and their innovative solutions to those issues.

    CANDIDATE PROFILE The ideal candidate has a passion for working to improve the lives of children and young people and wants to ensure their meaningful participation in solutions globally. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of the foreign policy media and donor environment, including strong relationships with the media; the ability to translate research and programmatic results for a media and policy audience; working knowledge of the intersecting vulnerabilities facing young people; and demonstrable experience delivering against goals with clear metrics for success. They should be excited about creating impactful stories and reaching new audiences.

    Qualifications

    • At least 6-8 years of relevant experience, including direct experience developing and implementing effective communications strategies with demonstrable impact.
    • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
    • Existing relationships with relevant media outlets, such as Politico, The Hill, DevEx, and the New York Times, as well as excitement to develop and deepen new relationships with other media.
    • Experience developing capacity statements, press releases, and reactive statements to world events.
    • Expertise in developing communications strategies and engaging diverse stakeholders such as peer organizations, donors and policy makers.
    • Excellent and engaging writer with a proven ability to translate technical materials and data into succinct, accurate and compelling written materials.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to quickly gain trust and respect.
    • Experience working in cross-cultural settings or teams preferred.
    • Ability to utilize and/or create icons and basic infographics in compelling ways.
    • Proficiency in Word, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint.
