Since 1877, The Fresh Air Fund has provided free summer programs to more than 1.8 million New York City children from low-income communities. Every summer, over 3,000 children visit our five sleepaway camps 65 miles north of New York City to get a break from city life, learn about the outdoors, make new friends and develop trust and personal strength at camp. Our camps are located on Sharpe Reservation in Fishkill, NY, which has over 2,000 acres of beautiful land with lakes, ponds, streams and hiking trails through the woods.

We are looking for dedicated and motivated individuals who want to have a fun, but challenging, summer while making a difference in the lives of underserved youth. Staff members from around the world will join us this summer in a variety of roles at our five camps, model farm and ropes course. We’re hoping that you can be one of them!

General Counselors are guides and role models to a group of campers as they explore the great outdoors. General Counselors at all camps are assigned to live with a cabin of 6-12 campers each session and are required to provide 24-hour-a-day direct supervision of campers. They also supervise campers in their cabins, the dining hall and during evening activities, help campers adjust to camp and manage camper behavior. In addition to assisting in specific activity areas, General Counselors create and lead programs as well as participate in activities throughout the day with their campers. Camp activities include, but are not limited to, hiking, boating, ropes course, model farm, art, dance, sports and recreation and swimming.

We are happy to offer internship credit to students who are eligible to receive it for their time at camp. We also offer a travel stipend to staff members who are traveling 300 miles or more to camp.

• At least 18 years of age
• Able to work for the entire duration of the summer program (6/18 – 8/17)
• Must have completed at least one year of college
• Experience working with children
