Canal Program Steward Intern
You will assist in managing one of the largest volunteer programs in the NPS system - recruiting volunteers, leading volunteer service projects, developing new and creative ways to use volunteers, and organizing the annual volunteer recognition dinners. In addition to providing overall support for the volunteer program, you willassist in planning, developing, and executing all aspects of any volunteer adoption of sites throughout the park.
The Canal Steward Program Intern will expand the park’s volunteer Canal Steward Program by allowing more volunteers and community constituents to adopt certain areas of the park and be responsible for maintenance and resource management tasks. Canal Stewards help to repair, maintain, and enhance facilities that directly improve the visitor experiences at the park.
The park will offer developmental opportunities for the intern by providing access to various NPS trainings. The park Volunteer Coordinator will serve as a mentor to the intern throughout the internship. This internship will provide hands-on training and career development opportunities, and the intern will be involved in coordinating volunteer projects that engage the community and improve the park for the visitors’ benefit.
This position will spend 70% of the time in the office working on volunteer management and recruitment. Field support with volunteer projects will comprise 30% of the position.
