    Ubuntu Education Fund offers full and part-time internships for undergraduates, advanced students, and recent graduates who are interested in gaining experience in the nonprofit sector. We are seeking a highly motivated, socially conscious Intern to help sustain Ubuntu’s life-saving work in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. This intern will not only join a passionate team of development professionals, but he/she will also benefit from the Ubuntu Internship Development Program.

    Ubuntu Internship Development Program:

    • Professional Skills Building: Projects that build communication skills, research capabilities, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, partnership capacities, and a contextualized understanding of development in Africa
    • Insight into Nonprofit Sector: Informal interviews with heads of departments across the organization, discussions of nonprofit and development trends, as well as access to industry professionals
    • Personalized Mentorship: Career guidance, regular feedback sessions with supervisor, and - CV/resume building workshops
    • Real-World Development Experience: Working relationships and networking opportunities with nonprofit professionals based in South Africa, the United States, and the United Kingdom
    • The Communications Strategy Intern will be instrumental in informing our communications and outreach strategies at Ubuntu, from initial research to online execution and engagement. As we revamp our website, the intern will play a vital role in conducting the appropriate research that will guide design and content decisions.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Research best practice strategies for non-profit blogs and storytelling
    • Generate informed strategy for Ubuntu’s Medium page that will excite our existing supporters and inspire others to get involved in our work
    • Stay abreast of relevant current events, trends, etc. in order to suggest new or related content
    • Assist in creating and lead on executing strategies to grow our online presence
    • Lead social media engagement and maintain database of influencers and thought leaders
    • Work with analytics team to determine most effective engagement strategies
    • Create and contribute to content calendar
    • Assist with various general support projects for Ubuntu’s External Relations departments and Executive Office
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Personable and enthusiastic about our mission, with effective communication skills
    • Excellent writing, proofreading, research and communication skills
    • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and attention to detail
    • Independent, self-start personality
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
    • Proficiency in popular social media channels
    • Basic understanding of Medium strongly preferred

    Eligibility:

    • Must be at least a college student in good standing, an advanced student, or a recent graduate
    • Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week during the fall and spring (15 hours preferred) and 20 hours per week during the summer
