Counselors are the primary caregivers for campers. Responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating and carrying out activities and guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills. Group leadership, youth development experience and program development skills needed. Promote high standards in all aspects of the camp program. Serve as a role model to campers and staff by through actions, appearance, manners, language, and general conduct. Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned.
Emphasis skills for Counselors include:
- 2-5 grade campers
- 6-8 grade campers

- Backpacking and wilderness skills
- Leadership develop in 9-12 grades
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their living unit, within activities and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes.
- Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication,relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment of youth.
- Assure campers are properly supervised at all times.
- Be aware of and implement safety guidelines.
- Assist in developing a schedule that incorporates program areas, transportation, food service and health needs are met for all campers.
- Supervise campers in the dining hall as to manners, kapers, eating habits, appropriate behavior, etc.
- Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers within the mission and outcomes.
- Responsible for leading and assisting with activities.
- Ensure that unit curriculum is delivered through planning and implementation of program.
- Actively participate in all program areas as assigned.
- Provide for the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
- Assist in program areas such as waterfront, ropes course, horseback riding, archery, nature, all camp activities, and arts and crafts as directed.
- Get to know the campers in the unit and help them grow as a team/community as well as individual. Lead daily Community Circles to enhance teamwork.
- Deliver outdoor skills programming appropriate for the age and ability of the campers.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
- Provide the daily care of each camper within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs.
- Ensure that campers receive their medications as directed by health staff.
- Be alert to campers needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems, and discuss with health staff and/or Camp Director when appropriate.
- Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure proper utilization, care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly.
- Report accidents and incidents promptly.
- Supervise unit housekeeping and sanitation. See that supplies are available and that equipment is used properly.
- Drive campers on trip programs, if you are an approved driver.
- Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
- Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
- Provide superior customer service to all campers, parents/families, staff, volunteers and vendors.
- Identify client needs, make suggestions, initiate and follow through with appropriate action.
- Complete parent postcards, activity reports, teamwork contract work on time.
- Participate as a member of the camp team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, trips, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Assist where needed on camper arrival and departure days.
- Be a bus chaperone, providing check in/out support, active supervision on buses and outstanding customer service to families.
- Other duties as assigned.
