  • Responsibilities

    General Responsibilities:

    1. Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude, behavior, and mindset
    2. To do what needs to be done
    3. Conduct themselves at all times in a manner which will reflect favorably on the Camp
    4. To identify and meet camper needs
    5. To carry out the camp’s programs, goals, and mission safely, effectively, and enthusiastically
    6. All other general responsibilities of staff members that are listed are listed in the Code of Conduct

    Specific Responsibilities:

    1. Assist in preparation and serving of all meals, as well as clean-up
    2. Be in the kitchen at least one hour before every meal to prep (or at a time set by cook)
    3. Cleaning Duties
      • Wash and put away all pots, pans, plates, cups, and silverware
      • Sweep kitchen after every meal, and mop every evening (or perform tasks more often as needed)
      • Sweep dining hall post meals, and mop once per week (or more as needed) -Wipe off dishwasher (including top) and keep surrounding area dry and clean
      • Wipe stainless steel countertops
      • Store all dish racks under counters
      • Take out trash to dumpster
      • Dig slop hole weekly and dump slop bucket
      • Clean garbage out of sinks
      • Clean sink rack after meal (garbage, pull out and scrub sides, put through dishwasher)
      • Keep rolling carts clean
      • Empty drain basket on dishwasher
      • Empty all wastebaskets in kitchen and dining hall, and replace with clean bags
      • Crush any cans or cartons; break down cardboard
      • Make sure all food is off the floor in the walk-in and storeroom, and is on shelves
      • Help unload supply truck and put away supplies
    4. Assist in proper food handling and storage by ensuring all food is off the floor and in its proper locations
    5. Help unload and put away supplies from delivery truck
    6. Properly record all required items including food labels and temperature logs in accordance to State Regulations
    7. Thoroughly clean the shower house (both sides) at least once per day and perform additional checks and clean as needed
    8. Clean up staff lounge areas and Main bathroom daily
      • Restock toilet paper/paper towels/trash bags in bathroom
      • Empty and restock garbage in building
      • Sweep/mop as needed
    9. Assist in activities and programming as assigned
    10. All other duties as assigned by the Camp Director, Kitchen Manager, Facilities Director, and/or Assistant Camp Director
  • Qualifications
    1. Must be 16 years of age or older
    2. CPR/AED and First Aid Certified (or willing to) preferred
    3. Clean background check and driving record
    4. Skill, knowledge, and experience in various tools, trades and maintenance areas (painting, electrical, construction, lawn maintenance, etc.) preferred.
    5. Self-starter and organizer
    6. Willing to listen to instruction and direction
    7. Ability to adapt and adjust in an ever-changing work environment
    8. A desire to work with and be of service to children
    9. Enthusiasm, patience, sense of humor, and self-control

    Campers and Staff from around the country and throughout the world have enjoyed summers at Camp Tannadoonah for 100 years. Our 45-acre camp overlooks beautiful Birch Lake in Vandalia, Michigan. If you like spending time in the outdoors, enjoying the sun, having fun on the water, and making lifelong friendships, Camp Tannadoonah is the place for you. We have 3-day, 7-day, and 11-day sessions, plus a multi-week Counselor in Training (CIT) program each summer.

    Camp Tannadoonah is licensed by the State of Michigan and Accredited by the American Camp Association. Campers and Staff will enjoy sports, water activities, arts, science, nature, team-building, and many other activities facilitated by our fun, caring counselors. At Camp Tannadoonah, campers embark on a week-long exploration to find their Sparks and create a camp experience that is truly unique to their interests.
