  • Responsibilities

    Open Primaries is seeking an intern to assist with our communications, social media, and graphic design efforts to further engage and grow our supporter base. The ideal candidate will be a well-organized, highly motivated college or graduate student who is eager to gain hands-on experience at a nonprofit dedicated to political reform.

    This internship is a part-time position with a minimum of 15 hours/week to start May 2017. The intern will primarily be assisting the Digital Director in digital and social media strategy and will help in the coordination of several upcoming campaigns. A $400 monthly travel stipend will be provided.

    Duties:

    • Help craft daily news updates
    • Assist in planning and outreach for media campaigns, including compiling materials and working with appropriate staff to ensure timely completion
    • Research digital outreach strategies
    • Draft letters and correspondence with supporters and various media outlets
    • Help craft social media and blog posts
    • Design infographics for use in social media campaigns, utilizing Illustrator and Photoshop
    • Assist with fundraising and digital advocacy campaigns
    • Assist in general office duties and logistical support for the Digital Director, as needed
    • Assist our media team with duties related to Open Primaries’ new web series “Our Democracy.”
    • Duties may include filming, recording audio, generating GIFS for the series and other tasks as needed

We advocate for open, nonpartisan primary systems, counter efforts to impose closed primaries and build coalitions of activists across the country. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the American people and government by creating more platforms for voters’ voices to be heard.

  • Qualifications
    • Currently enrolled college/graduate student, preferably studying communications or political science
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Drive
    • Excellent sense of responsibility and attention to detail
    • Experience with social media management
    • Eagerness to learn about grassroots political campaigns and voting rights issues
    • Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and other design applications a plus
    • Knowledge of HTML / CSS a plus
    • Experience in video editing a plus
