The dates for this internship are from 6/11/2018 to 2/17/2019

The Girl Scouts Education and Outreach Interns will be placed in pairs in eight Girl Scout Councils around the country to support Council program staff and volunteers in providing outdoor programs for girls. Interns will build the capacity of the Council by providing additional support in facilitating outdoor activities and providing pre-organized activities to increase opportunities for girls to get outside. The interns will work directly with the Councils, developing outdoor and conservation activities for girls and opportunities for volunteers to increase their comfort and skills in leading outdoor activities.

The Intern will also assist with developing a series of community-based events for girls and their families. Community-based events may include SCA’s National Service Days encouraging parents, girls and volunteers to commit one day to experiencing outdoor activities through environmental stewardship, and/or council-organized outdoor training events. Interns will also assist Councils in developing key benchmarks of success to determine if these strategies are increasing girl and volunteer participation in the outdoors.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Collaborate with Council program staff and volunteers to create outdoor and conservation activities for girls
    • Work with Council volunteers to increase their comfort and skills in leading outdoor activities
    • Work with Council adult development staff to ensure troop camp certification training provides council volunteers the support and education they need to implement successful outdoor program
    • Regular and consistent communication with Council program staff and SCA staff
    • Awareness of grant outcomes and ensure consistent effort to meet outcomes
    • Evaluate outdoor events to ensure outcomes are met
    • Working collaboratively with Council program staff and volunteers, create and implement at least 3-4 outdoor events annually
