DOROT offers a nine-week summer internship program for college students interested in careers in non-profit management, community organizing, social work and working with the elderly. Through a competitive process, we choose ten interns each summer.
The Internship provides students with an educational understanding of social isolation amongst the elderly and how DOROT addresses this issue and operates. We give each intern substantive work and project management experience. So while the work done by interns varies by department we are committed to entrusting interns with significant responsibility and providing them with an opportunity to contribute to their department in a real way.
Summer College Interns gather for a weekly lunch for issue based workshops and group reflection. There are opportunities for interns to customize projects to match interests, meet professional goals, and/or fulfill requirements for class credits. Interns also partner to run intergenerational programs.
Our ideal candidate would have an interest in social work, seniors, non-profit management, program development, social media, and marketing. Ideal applicants should be mature, capable, and responsible.
DOROT alleviates social isolation among the elderly and provides services to help them live independently as valued members of the community. We serve the Jewish and wider community, bringing the generations together in a mutually beneficial partnership of elders, volunteers and professionals. Our work provides an effective model for others.
