    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    The Interpretation and Social Media Intern(s) will assist the Chief of Interpretation, Education and Visitor Services for Manhattan Sites to provide quality visitor experiences, work with the general public, produce and post content to social media outlets, park websites, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram and Facebook at Stonewall National Monument.

    There is one position that is being recruited to work with the two rangers at Stonewall National Monument. They will work Tuesdays- Saturdays from 11:45 am - 8:15 pm.

    Work may include weekends and holidays and may involve live social media posts.

    ACCOUNTABILITY:

    The Interpretation and Social Media Interns will report directly to the Chief of Interpretation, Education and Visitor Services who is responsible for his/her assigned tasks, duty performance and mentoring.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Present formal and informal talks, guided tours, historic education programs or multi-media presentations
    • Provide information, directions and guidance to visitors to help them enjoy their experience
    • Utilize social media platforms as a tool to broaden awareness of the NPS sites in NYC and promote programs and events
    • Complete an in-depth project or research task to provide a learning experience and a tangible product for the park
    • Attend training and meetings as necessary

    START AND END DATE FLEXIBLE: 5/14/18-10/13/18

  • Qualifications

    The Interpretation and Social Media Intern should have the following skills and experience:

    • Knowledge and understanding of customer service
    • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of visitors
    • Ability to work well in a diverse team environment with individuals of varying temperaments and abilities
    • Experience writing and conducting research
    • Strong familiarity with the social media platforms
    • Computer literate and knowledge/understanding of Microsoft Office software
    • Interest in the National Park Service mission and the parks in New York.

    $800/ month housing allowance, $250/week living allowance
